you and I both know that the above statement is bollocks. Downing has consistently put in more successful crosses then another other player outside of the top for the last seasons. we should have brought Downing from boro IMO but we had Benitez in charge who preferred other players, ho hum we have him now and as for the laugh smilie ad Adam for 7 million... your manager said his corners alone were worth 10 million so we got a bargain there
I'm pretty sure Sir Alex was joking, and Downing is hardly a top class player. £20m is a complete rip off.
I'd like to see evidence of the most successful crosses as I'm fairly sure that you guys trawled out something similar when you signed Pennant. What I do know is that Young has set up more goals than any other player apart from Fabregas in the last 4 seasons.
This is one of few justifiable criticisms I have of Rafa. For some reason he rarely played Crouch and Pennant at the same time. I never understood why.
Adam - One of the best players at Blackpool Downing - Threatened with relegation, but that was arguebly due to the manager, not the players. Henderson - They had a bad second half to the season, when most of their team got injured, not really fighing against relegation.

Ask any Villa fan and they will tell you that Downing is a better and more consistent player than Young. He won player of the year at Villa last year.
With the money Liverpool have spent you would expect to see better players than Carrol Adam and downing being mentioned! Atleast henderson has some real potential even if he was 20 mil. Really don't rate Adam back january i see United being linked to him, nearly had a heart attack.
Carroll is a class act, Liverpool will find out in time if he keeps his head off the pitch and stays injury free.
You know, Poulsen, Rodriguez and Joe Cole are all excellent players. All they need is a little time and confidence. Quite why your manager thinks Henderson, Adam and Downing are better is anyone's guess.
