Decent man manager & will develop players but be warned, he walked out on Watford for Reading only a few days after telling Russo he was fully committed to Watford & has now walked out on Celtic with no warning whatsoever. He'll make all the right noises to please & keep fans onside but he'll leave you in the lurch without a second thought - treacherous as they come.
He has massive bust ups with the Celtic board over lack of ambition and funding. Most of their signings this season have been loans and they sold Moussa Dembele. They have loaned our 5th choice centre half so tells you all you need to know about the 2 clubs
He's started taking nonsense already, I hope that he does well once the footy starts but he's do well to bin the sound bites.
Be interesting to see what the likes of Maddison, Gray, Choudhry and Barnes make of it. Reputation for giving youth a go but will want his own squad in the summer. Does look good for Benkovic and could be the final nail for most of the older members of the squad although we know most will be going anyway.
Watford fan here. His first managerial job was with us following a recommendation by Mourinho. Need I say any more? I have to admit that he's a good coach, but the way he left means that on Sunday he'll get the same sort of reaction from us that Silva did.
He knew the situation at Celtic when he came - there was never big money to spend on players like you have in the EPL & Celtic's MO is well known ie try to find new talent, develop it & eventually sell on for the profit needed to keep the club going. Its not that he left - its the manner in which he did so ... scuttling away like a rat without warning. He duped the fans, telling them he was a fan since boyhood, was in his 'dream' job & was there for the 'long haul'. Mark my words - I hope he does a good job for you but he's a liar & will jump ship without warning like a rat when it suits him.
I'm hoping he does jump ship from us, because it would mean we are doing well and hes in demand. Would rather this than slip down the league and just sack him to be where we are now again.
LOL - I hope you don't live to regret those words. If you're doing well, in the middle of a campaign with important games coming up within days & he 'jumps ship' suddenly, without warning, I think you'll feel a lot different. Watford & Celtic fans can vouch for that. I dont doubt he'll do a decent job for you but I wouldn't trust a word he says.
Maybe if we were overachieveing, like pushing the top 6 close, then probably would be pissed tbh I don't see him doing that well though, just want him to have a positive effect on the squad in general, young squad for him to mould. Ideally would like him to look at Iheanacho to see if he is good enough to develop into a permanent Vardy replacement.
There's no doubting his capability for developing young players. His 'mantra' seems to be that he sees his job as making the players the best they can be & he certainly did that at Celtic. I wish Leicester the best of luck - I'm just issuing some words of caution given our experience of him ... he's a liar & cannot be trusted. The Dembélé saga at Celtic was another case in point - Rodgers let him take all the flack for leaving yet Dembélé tells a different story. He accuses Rodgers of being a liar, promising to let him move on, then trying to scupper his move when only a few months previously Rodgers tried to persuade him to move to China from where Rodgers had received a 'huge' offer to move himself. Anyway, lads, good luck, I wish you the best - just dont put all your trust in anything Rodgers says!
Had Talksport on the radio earlier. They asked Leicester fans to phone in and ask how they will feel if he jumps ship to a bigger club in eighteen months time. My reply was give him a long service award. My wife said - will there be a bigger club than us in eighteen months time. These blue tinted specs are magical.
Pretty much every manager or player in this day and age does exactly the same thing. Signs for club, states its a great club, dream job, privilege to play for blah blah blah..... then does well and gets a better offer, they're off. Just as you'd tell an employer they were great to work for when you want a job but would leave in a heartbeat for something better. Rogers hasn't scuttled off, he got a better offer. It was expected in the summer but circumstances changed. Are we his dream job, probably not but it's a great challenge for him back in the premier league.
You didnt really make it hard for him to go though. As soon as we offered a few quid you was pushing him out the door But your club will always put the “we reluctantly agreed to let him go” spin on it
Bottom line is dont trust anyone in football If something better comes along in 2 years Rodgers will want out then. Just football and the world we live in If you work for Tesco and Asda offer you more money for the same job. You wont have any loyalty then. You will want to best deal for yourself
You just have to remember (except for very few) no manager or player are true fans for "your" club when they sign for you. It is their job. Like Proud says above, if you got a better offer elsewhere for doing the exact same job, you'll be off.
LOL - can just see the thousands of Tesco & Asda customers/fans being disappointed with a member of staff leaving! Different scenario altogether - Rodgers went out of his way to ingratiate himself with fans on a weekly basis ... much more so than most managers. Of course it's no surprise that he's mercenary like most things associated with football these days but he's an out and out liar who cant be trusted and I think that's what disappoints fans the most. He most certainly did scuttle off - the timing of which couldn't have been worse & yes, he has put two fingers up to the Celtic Board with whom he had his disagreements (Lawwell in particular) but its the blatant lies he told fans that is the most disappointing. I will leave you with your hopes for better things but can assure you Rodgers will 'do you over' one way or another when the time is right for him (if you dont sack him before then) - it will be interesting to hear your views when that time comes. That's me done - as I said I wish Leicester and fans all the best & it would be good to see you shake up the ''big' teams again no matter who your manager!
