I'm sorry, but I just don't see why anyone would be negative about this signing, I really don't. I think when you consider the players we are likely to be able to attract I think a guy with good technical ability, twenty odd caps for Argentina, the desire to get back into the international squad in a world cup year and the right attitude (by the sounds of it anyway) to fit snugly into the dressing room sounds just about ideal. For me his age isn't an issue, if he was 32/33 then maybe but 30 isn't a problem at all. As I've also said, £3m might be a little steep, but if we can sign him on some kind of loan deal with a view to buying him in the summer I reckon it would be a superb piece of business. And as for not enjoying a season less than this one, come on fella, it wasn't all that long ago we had to put up with the tripe under Rodent, Grant and even the last year or so under Worthy - surely this is better than that isn't it?
Agree a loan-to-buy suits all parties, we get the player, he gets the chance to shine, and Newcastle save wages. On Toivonen, he's got 4 assists and 2 goals in 23 games this season, last season 10 goals and 5 assists in 32 games. It's not prolific but I don't know what his overall contribution to the side is like, he's meant to be decent with his feet so might help us keep possession and build. What his attitude is like in the dressing room I don't know. Opposition fans hated Holt but he was a key figure in our dressing room. Holty never quite got a hate page though!
well if we do sign him, i'm sure the spiderman mask would provide some much-needed entertainment at carrow road, should he score certainly we've lacked characters this season, especially holt's antics (remember the sound mic vs ipswich during 'movember')
Isn't the principle thing with Toivonen's reputation for being a bit of a liability that he wants out of PSV? In that case, surely he is unlikely to be disruptive if he comes here given that he presumably wants to come and therefore is getting what he wants? Of course, that will be up until he decides he wants to leave us, but we should be able to cross that bridge when it comes!
I think its good to have a player that the opposition hate playing against and winds people up, so long as its not disruptive to the team it can be a real advantage on the pitch
Exactly, he'd spend 90 minutes bullying and irritating defences, we now need that but with a better quality of player.
That was kind of my impression, coupled with the fact he's a bastard on the pitch nobody likes to play against. Well frankly if he can wind an opposition player and buy us free-kicks, sendings offs and rash decisions, that's all helpful. Only concern would be that he was joining because he felt forced out of PSV and didn't have any other options, in which case it's up to the management to convince him to use us as a springboard to a champion's league side.
I've always felt Guitierez was a bit of a donkey and to be honest I was hoping it was all rumours but I guess its not a terrible option to have. I really hope Hughton sticks with Pilks though because on his day he is probably the best player in our team. If we can manage his injury he'll be a real asset.
To manage Pilkington's injury you need someone to share the load with him, in other words someone just like Gutierrez.
the first game Jonas has for us ..against manure ,,he ran vidic etc allover .. hes a tricky player who holds the ball well .. okay hes older now but was converted to a full back type role cause they thought he couldn't cross the ball well. please don't be to angry guys he aint that bad .. he gives his all

In my opinion a loan throws a completely different complexion on the deal. Glad we're not leaving our business until the last day of the window as well
