£3m is reasonably money for a seasoned Premier League player and Argentinian international. It's not a bargain, admittedly. I also doubt it is £3m anyway. There is no way we'll be paying Gutierrez full whack (i.e. what Newcastle were) so either he would be coming on loan with us not fully paying his wages or we will have a similar arrangement to that with Tottenham re Bassong's wages.
Nah, he's too old, wouldn't want him! I'm not convinced by Gutierrez at the price quoted, I don't think it's the wisest use of our funds. If it's a loan deal (or free transfer/nominal fee) then I can see the sense in getting cover for Pilks. When Pilks has played, he's done well, our problems have always been creating from the middle of the park so that's what I think we need to address. If Gutierrez is the only player we bring in during January I'll be concerned.
I think the £3m is guesswork by the Newcastle press who started this story. CH has an excellent record in the transfer market, so if he thinks JG is the type of player we need at the moment then I'm happy with that. He knows him well and JG knows the PL so there won't be much 'settling in' required. Redmond is very much a player for the future, but we need an experienced alternative to and competition for Pilks, given his injury record. IMO, this would be a good signing and one which would leave money available for the ACM signing we're all hoping for.
Alright lads Just seen this on SSN, think yous are being done with this deal Have a few friends from Newcastle who say he used to have pace and be an engine for the team, now hasn't got much to his game apart from stamina £3m for a 30 year old seems excessive (Then again we did buy Brown and O'Shea for a ridiculous amount!) However compared to some of your summer signings (Fer, Hooper, Olsson etc) this seems a very strange one All the best for the season anyway!
I just wonder if he could be a good player to have in the dressing room, there is in fighting on the pitch now and some fresh blood/experienced head might just be whats needed at the present time Bassong lost it with Rvw on saturday and a couple to players put a supporting arm round RvW ; my opinion was RVW played a decent pass to Bassong, but Bassong was off the pace and it created a good opportunity for Everton.
I didn't say Gutierrez would relegate us. I said if he signs, that suggests the board have decided to go with Hughton for the rest of the season, and that is what I believe will relegate us.
Please read my post more carefully before you do your rabid rottweiler act. If you do, you will see that the part about a decision relegating us comes directly after the part about the decision to keep Hughton. Therefore they naturally go together. I say 'believe' in my second post because this serves the same function as 'probably'.
I hope he'll do OK for us, but like others I think there bigger holes in the dyke that need filling. There is of course 3 more weeks to fill them. I'm not sure I fully understand signing him permenantly though. He isn't as good as some of our existing options in my opinion and whilst they are injured he gives us a good option, but I'm not sure that long term, he'll do anything more than keep Becchio company. A loan might be a good bit of business though. Bah!
Sounds like it's going ahead - there are already some Norwich fans getting ready to welcome him at the airport. (Courtesy of PaddyPower on twitter) please log in to view this image
Hughton has confirmed in the pre-Fulham presser that "There is an interest in Jonas Gutierrez but there's nothing to confirm at this moment. If that changes, we will let you know." Beginning to wonder if Pilks is off really.
Wouldn't be my number one choice, but it is hardly a bad signing. Extra experience in a position we have had lots of injuries, can also cover at RB and very experienced. For people saying this is not the signing we need, do you know that this is the only signing the club is trying to make? Of course you don't. Just looking for any excuse to complain which is pretty sad really.
Another reason we shouldn't sign him is that stupid ****ing pony tail. We finally get rid of all our gingers, and now we go and do this!
I can see the benefits of him signing, even if I'm not overly enamoured with him as a player, particularly compared to the signings we made in the summer, when we were admittedly spoilt! People pass judgement on what they see as it comes. So far we appear to be close to signing a winger (debatable whether he's an improvement or not, but good to have cover) and made an ambitious bid for a CB which didn't come off. Of course it's easier to say how the window went in February, or even at the end of the season, but where's the fun in waiting until then to comment? Also, Tettey and Pilks are fit and in contention for Hull!
