I can't find his name referenced anywhere still. Surely any benefit to such a title comes with exposure? Anyone can say whatever they like to their buddies down the Polo club, doesn't really mean much.
From my understanding, it's just a title for him, he doesn't actually get involved in anything other than a few meetings etc.
Maribor, Olimpjia (from Ljubljana) and Celje (Robert Koren's old club) are the three biggest teams, the others have grounds the same size as North Ferriby's. The average attendance in that league is about 2000 a game, so make of that what you will. Effectively, it's similar to the Scottish Premier League. Two big clubs, a slightly smaller club and then small clubs make up the rest.
I don't see it as a good thing for City long term, although accept it's how many clubs are owned now - as part of a portfolio, where owners are speculating on success. At the moment, all is good and looking upwards, but I don't like the direction that remote ownership is heading/has headed. The Allam ownership type (local wealthy investor) seems old fashioned already. If the football league had any courage, they would implement a compulsory fan ownership percentage, but this would scare off a lot of foreign investment. However it would create a situation where a core of the fanbase are invested more emotionally in the club, rather than just spectators.
Can imagine the former Yugoslavia having an interesting league. Hostility/rivalry and raft of quality teams and players. Red Star obviously used to break through in European club competitions. But it would've been interesting, if Yugoslavia hadn't broken up, how the national team would have done in the 90s/2000s. I would imagine, very very well.
But the fan-owned clubs in this country haven't worked in the majority of cases. The reality is that clubs are difficult businesses to run and you need people running them with experience in dealing with companies of that size.
We have this in Sweden with all Swedish clubs having a minimum of 51% fan ownership. I like it a lot. We don't get big foreign investments so its harder to do well in Europe generally but the focus is on the fans experience and enjoyment which means fans can reject things like VAR. The top two tiers are seeing record crowds and the atmosphere IMHO is top notch.
Probably because it's an unfair footing. If all clubs have a mandatory fan-owned percentage it would be totally different. Of course that'll never happen.
