Kenwyne was the kind of striker I like..wouldn't mind him back at Saints, but only as an understudy to Lambert.
i think gekkos valuation of jones has one basic flaw- he says with the right coaching he could be great, well i think that jones may well think that he is already a great striker and will not listen to other peoples advice. whereas rickie has proved that even halfway through his career he is not only willing to listen, but also puts in the extra work on fitness to improve his game
It seems to me that Kenwyne is happy with being a mediocre footballer and getting paid. He could have turned out a lot better than he has, but I get the impression that he can be quite lazy. Comparing him with Lambert is quite simple - they are both big "target man" style strikers, but Jones is far more athletic. Rickie, however, has a far better touch and finishing and will always score more goals. If you judge strikers on goals then Rickie is better than Kenwyne.
I am one of these who believes a striker is there to score goals, not work hard for the team or any other things that people use to enhance the wonderful goal record of prolific frontmen such as Emile Heskey, or our very own Brett Ormerod.
Here we go with that unbelievable too slow accusation again. I suppose you didn't know that he could beat both Theo Walcott and Nathan Dyer for speed..? Jones is/was actually very fast indeed. He just didn't/doesn't look it because he's a big bloke. As for the rest of your appraisal, I don't recognise the player you are describing, except the match winning bit.
Didn't Kenwyne refuse to play for us at one point, due to frustration over transfer dealings or some such?In which case, f**k him. He was a decent striker, but to compare him to Drogba is a bit rich.
Agreed - Saints did a lot for him, and he disrespected us all. His career hasn`t progressed any since he left. I`d rather play with 10 men than have him back. Big blouse !
8 less games. Worse win/goal ratios with harder games. More expensive to go see them. Can't watch the highlights on BBC during the following week. I'm more excited to see how Lallana, Lambert, Schneiderlin, Davis and Guly get on. This all assuming we go up. I won't count my chickens until we are within 3 points. Then I'll start counting them. There's a fair few so will take me a while. I think there's 34 of em. But I will wait.
If hes as quick as Theo and Dyer, and doesn't go disappearing too often and is a real match winner the question must be asked why is he still struggling to nail down a place ahead of Ricardo Fuller.
I have to agree that at the time of our pomp with him in the side that season, I thought he was a very, very good player. I remember wondering why Harry hadn't played him more and when he did, why wide midfield. The biggest difference by a mile between the two mentioned strikers is attitude and effort. That old chestnut about Inspiration and Perspiration springs to mind.
