From what I've read we've said we're not interested in buying Longstaff. United are going to have a heck of a lot of names being linked to them this summer, quite often to drive the money up with other clubs who are already in for players. Which raises the question who put the rumour out there about Longstaff and why?
I don't think any of us actually think he's getting a big money move this summer to be honest. If he hadn't got injured and had continued playing in the manner he was up until the end of the season then I could imagine clubs would have circled around - he's a very tidy player who was doing his job amazingly well considering his lack of experience. As it is, he got injured and it's hard to be certain whether what we saw was his ability or just a player in a rich vein of form. No-one is going to pay silly money for that and I can't see why we'd sell him for less than silly money. As for where the story comes from, there really doesn't have to be a source. Journos just make up whatever they want, whenever they want.
We were in the mire in the league (18th/19th spot) and then had a bunch of injuries in the centre of the park (Shelvey, Diame, Ki) and had to play a youth-team player (Longstaff) and our 4th choice centre mid (Hayden). We then won 5 home games on the bounce (including Man City) with all the impetus coming from our centre pair. Longstaff stood out, even in the City game. All in all though he only actually played about 10 games before his injury.
It's his opening and closing gambit for every season. He is, of course, occasionally and eventually correct.
Depends on how you look at it really. You say it for every season and most seasons we don't get relegated. It's like a weatherman saying "it's going to rain soon". Eventually they'll be correct but you'd stop bothering to listen to them to be honest.
I said it when we got relegated and we havent sold our best players since so im still actually at 100 % prediction rate tbh nobodies been interested in any of our players since the last time we were relegated
It's every footy fan's God given right to moan like a bitch tbf. At least he seems consistent. It's the fickle fanboys who want their manager sacked because they lost a game after 20 wins we should worry about!
