In the early ‘90s fresh out of uni and out of work just as the domestic PC market was taking off I went for a job pre-installing the bundled software onto them.
It was just pre-CD roms and the job essentially involved swapping the floppy discs as WordPerfect, Lotus 123 and dBase were installed from them. I never got the job so I can’t quite remember, but it was maybe 30 floppy discs onto however many PCs all day every day.
Anyway, they gave you a £400 retention bonus every 3 months, which I doubt was much to do with how great an employer they were as opposed to clear recognition that it might have been the most tedious ‘skilled’ (I use the term very loosely) job you could possibly imagine.
