Born and bred there. Born in the Eastend, grew up in North and South London. Like many big cities it’s changed. When I was growing up places like Islington and Notting Hill were major ****holes. Now you pay millions to live there. Basically, hate ****holes like Oxford St, love the Southbank.
That's alien to me up here, not saying I've never heard of people being stabbed but it's never a regular thing.
Loads of places like that now that have been gentrified. Near me Deptford was the big ****hole. Now it's a hipster paradise.
The end of my road in London always had those big yellow 'Can you help, are you a witness ?' signs. Either Murder, Rape, Stabbing, Shooting, Armed Robbery. It was just common place. As I say, it was just normal for me because that's what I grew up with. It was only when I moved out to the sticks that I realised how different life was away from the cities.
Yes, but like i tried to establish at the very start (before ern butt in) London makes up for a massive part of the population.
Yeah and one of the most diverse cities in the world. What is it now, something like 9m people live there?. And for all the wealth, London still has some of the most deprived areas in the whole of the UK. It's no wonder there's a high crime rate given the massive population and wide demographic of people.
I lived in London for a few years. Didn’t like it. I don’t like big cities in general so it’s not an anti-London thing.
Actually, I think Cornwall ironically has some of the most deprived towns for child poverty in the UK. Places like Camborne and Pool are ****ing ****holes. When I was in the NHS, we used to do a lot of work on an estate called Trenere in Penzance. Rough as ****. Lots of seaside towns are some of the poorest areas in the UK
People have an idyllic view of Cornwall and think it's all beaches, ice cream and surfing. But it's one of the lowest wage areas in the country with some of the highest housing needs. Expensive rents as a result of demand, plus we have ****ing astronomical water bills because the county is surrounded by water, so South West Water are responsible for keeping all the beaches free of sewage.
Used to work in Deptford for a while, many years ago. Not a place to hang around at night... Just down the road was Carrington House, the dossers place. It was known locally as The Deptford Hilton
All been turned into posh flats now I think. Do you remember the Pepys estate ? I used to have a paper round there back in the 80's. I remember finding a finger in one of the stairwells in the flats there.
Ffs you vegan ****ing hippy type, do i have to spell it out? Where do you prefer London, or pikey Cornwall as you've described it
