Latest from the sailing is that Britain has won another gold,,, Denmark again getting the silver,, and the somalians took a middle aged couple from Weymouth.!!
But in fairness, we all knew Ronaldo was prone to diving anyway. He was clever. He knew Rooney had a short temper, and if he could pull off a little dive, make Rooney angry, get him sent off, all of a sudden Portugal were easing through the game. Had he not winked, it would have been better, but the wink implied that he did it on purpose and didn't do himself any favours. AND they were team mates. All that together makes the perfect recipe for someone to blame. We as English people do, love to blame someone else therefore the media were all over Ronaldo like a rash. There's differences in the way the media seems fair and when it's not. IMO it depends on the circumstances.
Team GB Equestrian horse riding team have WON GOLD just a few moments ago. Netherlands take silver and Saudi Arabia take the bronze. 50+ medals looking very good now as the total stands at 39.!!! 17G, 11S, 11B.
Jason Kenny in the Olympic Mens sprint,, just taken the Gold in the cycling. Sorry stormed to the Gold medal. Thats 6 Gold in the cycling now for GB.
The media made a big fuss about the wink but the real problem was that Rooney had the ball and was being fouled by about 4 different players, nothing was done, Rooney retaliated and then it was time for the ref to actually do his job - when it was a decision against England of course. The fact that Ronaldo helped get his own club mate sent off by going over to the ref and moaning at him wasn't nice either. If that wasn't bad enough (and no one remembers this because the media preferred to obsess over the wink) Jamie Carragher scored a perfectly legitimate penalty and had to retake it - in a shootout of all times - and eventually missed leading to us being knocked out. You can just do things like that in major tournaments if it knocks England out. I find it amazing that so many tournaments have seen England knocked out in such similar dodgy circumstances in the last decade or so, and actually it surprises me that people don't go on about it even more.
I couldnt disagree more - in my eyes we bleat on for literally years about the preceived injustices and completely gloss over the decisions that go in our favour. Anyone remember Euro 96 and Spain having TWO completely legitimate, 100% legal goals disallowed for offside before we went on to win at penalties? The answer is probably no, because it never gets a mention. Or Michael Owen cheating - for their is no other word for it - to secure us victory over Argentina? Or the biggest one in British sport history when a goal that clearly didnt go over the line won us a world cup? But ever since Maradona and his hand of God it has been our aim at every major tournament to find someone to blame for our glaring inneptitude.
So....he's human, after all: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/phelps-adm...UEdGVzdANUZXN0X1N0aWNreVJSX1VLX1Rlc3Qx;_ylv=3
Erm....Yes the ball did cross the line. Roger Hunt who was the nearest player to it and the all important linesman said it did. You forget Hursts hatrick goal - Englands 4th by the way.!!!
Euro 96 no I don't remember because I was 3, that's why I mentioned the last decade. Apart from the Euros this year, 2002 was the last time we just got knocked out purely on merit.
'Clearly didn't' my ****ing arse, it could easily have been given either way, as proved by the fact that people still argue about it 48 years later(mainly German's obviously). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__MJV11nRqU And we won 4-2 anyway.
Another pair of Yorkshiremen doing GB proud. One of the brothers winning the triathlon with a few seconds to spare and one in third, slightly behind the front two, but with a penalty to sit out. Still a gap between him and 4th. Pity they're wessies, but it's still Yorkshire i suppose.
Yorkshire now 6th in the medal table, ahead of Russia. We should take over the country, anyone up for a ku-de-ta?
Yeah, with a goal in injury time when 'some people are on the pitch'. What wouldve happened in them days with a 2-2 draw anyway - toss the coin?!
Ah but I bet you know about Maradona a decade earlier dont you and that is EXACTLY my point in a beautiful nutshell. And apologies for 3 posts in a row but I didnt want to go all Frenchie on you.
