I didn't say Country, I said systems and cultures, like democracy and our legal system. The Country's okay too though in my opinion, and seemingly the opinion of the people coming across here, unless they're here for the weather.
Sentimental stuff - 'the systems and cultures much of the world still aspires to' have now been replaced by globalisation and mega-corporate control (we're just merely tolerated as we go about our tiny way, believing we have 'control' over our own political systems); and 'great chunks of our heritage' are, in fact, their private property, not ours.
OLM, may I ask (though I think you probably won't tell me) but what is your business? You've dropped a few teasers and I'm interested to know. If you don't wanna tell me, can you give me a clue? Like, what do you sell? I'll try to suss it out. It's like a quiz! Cheers - Party Hull
Not sure what the final question has to do with this thread or even the rest of your post..... However in answer to it, I will say I haven't made my fortune here or anywhere else. Live and worked abroad for many years, made a bit of money and saw/did a lot of things. In one of my jobs, I sometimes dealt with people who owned businesses, were multi millionaires, had private planes, bodyguards, multiple homes, big companies in many sectors etc The more of these type of people I dealt with, the more I started to see certain common behavioural traits, one of the more frequent ones was a certain modesty about wealth, understating their fortune and lifestyle, keeping it low key etc Other times I was dealing with people from the Eastern Bloc or South America, who went out of their way to try and be flash even though they had **** all..... You learnt to read people by their attitude to their wealth (or lack of it) All of which has **** all to do with London and people's perceptions of it.......
Hmmm, very good. Maybe he owns a record label? Is it Richard Branson??? YES! Oh no, I'd have noticed him at the KC. Damn! So close...
I'm not sure my band had anything to do with music. We were good at noise, but we fell short in the whole music department.
I've worked in just about every city in mainland Britain, and to be fair London has some nice bits and some very nice people, but the majority are cants
Well I didn't want to say outright, just a teaser for Party Hull. But I could understand if parts of this thread start to vanish.
In relation to London, I regret to say that even though it's our capital City, I have only ever enjoyed very limited stints there. You know, school trips, football matches, going to an airport. I did once stop over a friend's house before a load of us went on holiday a few years back. We were flying from Gatwick, she lived in Croydon (which, I think, is not actually London - is that right?). Anyway, I thought it was quite nice. She lived in this big, semi-detached house and the surrounding area seemed pleasant. This was well before it all got set on fire in the riots. I've heard Croydon get slagged off a lot, so it must be a bit ****, but I quite liked it. Also I got lost at one of the Tube stations once, can't remember which one, as I was pissed. That was play off final day actually, so I can't even remember what places in London we visited after the match, looking for boozers. Might have been Leicester Square...
Actually, London is like a lot of villages joined together - and most people live in their patch and go to work in another patch and don't see very much of anything else, that's why the football teams in London are so tribal.
The whole 'holidays abroad' culture that sprang up after the war is the reason Britain has gone down in the worlds estimation, binge-drinking Brits have given the UK a bad name all over the world. As for the Royals, some of them have moved with the times but then you have the loathsome ones that really could do with a good guillotining
