It's difficult to speculate without knowing the facts. I cannot help thinking that this might be a setup. Then again footballers are regularly getting up to these kind of tricks, so it's difficult to know what's actually happened. The suggestion of drugs on face value seems very sinister.

? set up? what motivation? obviously not blackmail, as the victim went to the police.
