    Erm....possibly an over-statement?

"The best you can get about it was an estimation and it varied from one source to another between 92,304 to 129,466 killed and 120,000 to 250,000 wounded. The official SHAT figure mentioned 94,203 killed in 2000."

Funny that France's elite fighting unit isn't even French.

Guess they need someone who they can rely on not to surrender.

    And Carmine, you're wrong.

People do seem to forget that the Yanks did only particpate in 1 day of actual trench warfare in WWI.
And indeed they funded and delivered training for Afghani rebels to held dispose of Russian troops and were then surprised when said weapons and training was used against them. Wasnt Bin Laden at one time declared as the US's official biggest ally? Another potential **** nugget from my head but I may have made that up...

Most of his unit were Serbians wanted for war crimes.

He was given a new identity when he joined, I don't think it's what he expected.

    His given name was Derek.

    Yep, Derek.

I don't think anyone would join if they expected it to be how it is.

It's more like voulenteering yourself to be tortured for a few years.

My late grandfather was called Derek. RAF pilot he was.

Wasn't dissing the Derek's of this world but I think he was under the impression he'd be called something like Mason Storm or Jack Archer.

    Not Derek Wardell.

He tells a story of when a young English lad with racist views joined and asked for a new name, it's not compulsory.

Knowing he had rather right wing views they re named him Javed Khan to teach him that racism in the legion isn't really acceptable( unless your Serbian).

Think on Bob, or should I say Francois?

I was about to say there's nothing racist about hating the French, but then I remembered they're not Human.

I went to twycross zoo the other day, they had a frenchman there. His name was Oumbie. He was quite fascinating, he sat there picking his nose and eating it, then had a **** on the floor and played with it for awhile.

I think they would call me Oumbie.

I find this appallingly racist especially as the French have just had to up their terrorist alert system to the next level due to concerns about Al Queda. They've gone from run to hide. They only have two further levels surrender and collaborate.

I'm not entirely convinced that taking the word surrender out made that comment less racist given the amount of African communities in France. Someone test this theory by going and find a black child and call them a cheeky monkey, then see if the parents are more or less angry if you say it without the word cheeky.

It surprises me that the Americans think they won independence rather than us letting them have it. They had France on their side and nobody had to come in and rescue them after a surrender, and they still speak our language (albeit badly) so they should know something is wrong.
