Must admit living in Northumberland, still don't know a single person who's had it or been affected by it indirectly. Weird given its a wild rover of a virus and deadly I have a mate who is on COVID response team (his usual job is something to do with getting people back into work - go figure). He reckons plans are being put in place now for Oct/Nov for the next lockdown. He says he can't tell if its just protective planning, or this is happening regardless. I assume the former, hopefully. Another mate who is a teacher has said they have also been advised to prepare online classes in prep for Oct/Nov. @Darren Peacock's Ponytail - you been asked to do this? The lad on the COVID response team is saying he'd start getting essential extras with every shop as its gonna get silly again.
I reckon they will get October half term and Halloween out the way first so we're spending money, maybe lock down after Bonfire night which will be the last "Party" so we have a solid month of lock down before opening up again for 2 weeks of Xmas shopping and Xmas New Year spending. Followed by regional lock downs after the January sales.
Well it's the 6 week "holiday" they ain't asking me ****. But seriously no. Maybe a very bored senior leadership team being overly proactive - ****ers. The first half term is a proper ball knacker as it is with out this sort of ****ish behaviour from a school. @haslam how about you?
I hope lock down 2 starts soon. The utility companies will be rubbing their hands if it's at the start of the cold snap.
We have indeed been asked to make sure that we have online resources made but in fairness it isn't a "right here right now" thing. It's just that when we're planning anything this term it needs to be put on the VLE (virtual learning environment) in advance. I'll only be doing it a week in advance though and then using that to teach my lessons from so it's more of an adjustment to how i work rather than a total rehash. For it to be useful though it does require more time than it would do usually. Bit of a pain but there you go.
I was talking to a driver for a mobile medic team the other day and he reckoned there hadn't been a Covid case in Northumberland for two months...make of that what you will. Where abouts in the County do you live Pouchy?
Two people I know of, one from Ashington one from Whitley Bay. Both had positive tests. One of them was a big guy, both did not go to hospital. The big guy has made a good recovery, the other guy who is older is still not right, constant fatigue. ETA This was back in April.
Bedlington lad mate. Have lived in town, Stakeford, Annitsford/Dudley, but back in Bedrock for a good 5 years now. I quite fancy living in Portugal half the year (the cold bits), then living Northumberland the rest of the time. I've been looking into buying some property up the coast on the seafront. I had access to a lovely place in Craster which we used to stay at and fish, but my selfish bastard of a mate sold it (way out of my price range!). I'd never leave completely, Northumberland is the greatest place on earth obviously . Fantastic if you like being outdoors.
at Bamburgh I see, it's a bit like pissing in the wind whilst breathing in the sea air always wondered why the air tasted of stale beer
Absolutely this. Born in Morpeth (great football team incidentally) Lived near Cramlington until I was seven, we then moved near Corbridge where I have lived ever since! I do a fair bit of cycling, both on and off road and when I leave my house, North, South, East or West I am into lovely countryside, riding on quiet roads. The weather is a bit sh*te at times though, that's the only downfall. I did nearly live in Australia but that's another story...
I live right beside Humford Woods in Bedlington, and Plessey Woods is but a stone throw away. I'm also on the bike (mainly off road) so its ideal. Plus a quick jaunt over to Cambois and you're joining the cycle route all the way up to Scotland. Absolutely ideal I did laugh at my PT who does home visits for my mother too. He described visiting Bedlington as us living in a little idyllic country village I think that's stretching it like, but he is from Cork and has only known Liverpool Manchester and Newcastle city centres since arriving on these shores. Very fortunate though nonetheless, great coastline with loads of access and great wooded areas etc. I do a fair bit of fishing too so it suits me just fine.
Wow WTF is(n't) going on up there? I know of loads who've had it and aware of a few who've died! My Mum up in Edinburgh and her friends were all really sick before Xmas last year and one of her friends husbands had to go to hospital on a ventilator (does a lot of travel for his work) but it wasn't even a thing back then so wasn't even thought of but they are convinced it was Covid. Down South London I think everyone knows someone or knows someone who knows someone who has had it/died. Few of my clients elderly parents have passed away sadly.
Interesting. The fact there are different approaches tells me this is not a government led thing, rather individual schools just doing a bit of extra planning. Also suggests my mate on this COVID response team, is reading too much into the plans being put in place. Like the schools it makes sense to plan ahead for lockdowns around then, as flu season will kick off and we don't know how this will dovetail with that.
