2 lads playing in Ireland are getting really good reviews. TLT is getting VERY good reviews. Wrexham fans want him now after last nights save. Supposedly looking very accomplished with his feet. Cartwright is getting decent reviews, not helped by a poor side in front of him. Harry Wood was being demanded to be in the side by fans. Rest of the loanees, mixed or not playing
The Donny fans seem to think they've got a chance of signing him permanently for a low fee but I don't see why we'd let him go. Seems like he's ready to step up into L1 and then he can potentially look at competing for the no.1 jersey with us.
From a youth loan perspective we have to try something different as the current plan ain't working. It's universally accepted that loanees aren't treated as well as permanent players and that's completely understandable but it's so hard for a young kid when they're pulled out of the XI after one game. You really need a run of games to find your feet. That's where the affiliation with Shelbourne worked as neither Wood nor Jarvis were instant successes. They took a few games to get up to speed and if we didn't have the connection, I don't think they'd have got the time. I'd be interested in sending players out on free transfers with buy back options at a minimal level to see if that worked any better. Grant at Donny is a great resource, and he's got them really flying now, and he's got a good track record of developing young players. Yes it would cost us money to bring them back, but considering what we've spent on wages for players who've barely featured this year, it would be a snip in comparison.
Agreed. Too much talent in recent years has never broken through due to no plan for their development. We seem to be learning now though. We had a youth team that got to the final of the premier league cup or whatever it was and only 4 of the 18 are in the football league now. Bowen, Rodgers (Grimsby), Tymon and I’ll count Batty at York despite it being just outside. The rest have all packed it in or play semi pro locally
He is certainly well liked there, I am sure it's a coincidence, but Donny was on a very poor run early in the season, and I was thinking maybe Grant was on borrow time, but since Timotee joined them, their form has vastly improved.
Most will have realised the demands on a goalkeeper in our system now and realise for a 20 year old that’s quite an ask.
TBF in any system a keeper rarely becomes first team keeper until after early 20s. TLT has always been a potential top keeper. He's streets ahead of our other younger keepers
During pre season he copped a lot of flack on here and people were saying he looked ****. An over reaction to a result that wasn't positive. Sort of set the trend for the rest of the season.
It was the Galatasaray game wasn't it? So it actually was a positive result, not that you could tell from the reaction on here.
Lo-Tutala did make some mistakes playing out from the back against Galatasaray but he also made some good saves. The whole keeper situation is weird. Ingram is a decent shot-stopper but poor/below average with his feet, Allsop is decent with his feet but a poor shot-stopper (and I don’t think the former outweighs the latter to warrant him a starting place). Pandur is an unknown quantity to most but he’s a very good shot-stopper by all accounts, commands his box very well and is very vocal. His footwork is hard to judge as we haven’t seen him play properly and Fortuna Sittard were more direct than our style of play. I’m hoping he becomes #1, sooner rather than later. Lo-Tutala is probably the pick of the bunch of our younger keepers in terms of talent and potential to be a first-team player for us in the future. Robson will probably be released in the summer and Cartwright hasn’t really impressed for Grimsby and didn’t play much at all last season on loan for Posh or Wycombe. I think Cartwright will probably go out on loan indefinitely until his contract runs out as he still has a few more years left I believe.
It’s strange we have 6 keepers there like we stockpile them Why don’t or didnt we have an under 23 centre forward to step in and have a go ?
