Tom Nixon also came on in the 81st minute in the Donny game and Harry Wood was an unused sub for Grimsby Yuriel Celi came on in the 92nd minute in Universitario's 2-0 win over Melgar
Nice to see Celi clocking up the minute. No literally; clocking up the minute. Better start calling him Tescoman. Every little helps.
Jarvis played 67 minutes in Shelbourne 2-1 win over Shamrock R scoring Shels 2nd goal Taylor unused sub in Saint Patrick's 1-0 loss to Bohemian's, with Jordan Flores (remember him) scoring their goal. Mill's was an unused sub for Bohemian's. Lovely goal from Jarvo
I maintain, he really should have been given the opportunity at the start of January, when we we had no wingers and were playing Doc, Slater and Tufan there. If the club carries on with the progression we have been making it’s doubtful a chance will ever present itself to him again, and from the start of pre season and throughout his first loan spell there he did everything right to earn that chance for me. A shame, but oh well.
I also found that strange, maybe there is something behind the scenes we don't know about, but he seems to like and be liked by Shelborne's faithful.
I really don't think it should be a big shock that Jarvis is doing well at a certain level but not considered good enough for our first team. He's far from the first. People on this board we're baffled that Danny Emerton was let go after scoring hatfuls in the U21s, but he ended up playing at Ferriby for years and didn't really have a pro career at all in the end.
I knew you were going to post this, we extended his contract, we send him out on development loans. He stands out in pre-season, he stands out in his loan spell. What else does he have to do? If that’s not enough, why bother extending the contract? Why send him on loan again, instead of just letting him go? Being given an opportunity when we had no fit first team players in his position is hardly a left field suggestion. He either performs or he doesn’t, without a chance he can’t can he. It’s not like pinning our entire season hopes on him.
Probably in the hope we could attract interest that could bring about a decent fee for him? His wage would be cheap so extending was easy enough, and then we hope we get a fee that offsets not only his wages but further dents our operating loss.
He’s already stood out in LOI, realistically what more is he going to do there to substantially increase his value? Even the very best players, top scorers etc, in that division get fees of about 20p. Having a decent few games in the championship would have given him some proper value.
As I said, I assume they were hoping they could do something, but given nothing eventuated, just loaned him back to Shelbourne. Or are you proposing that since we didn't sell him we should have instead kept him in the squad to play with us for the remainder of the season?
What else does he have to do? Impress the manager enough to get in the team, same as everyone else. So far he hasn't. He might eventually. The premise that he absolutely must be tried in the first team because he's done well on loan, U23s or even in friendlies isn't a strong one. That's never been the reality. Other players have got as far and not made it in the first team.
Yet Vaughan is supposedly considered good enough to get minutes and he’s looked terrible at league 1 level so far… I have spoken to people at the club and the consistent message is he’s as good as anyone, it’s just a consistency issue. He was fancied over Harvey Vale “Chelsea’s next big thing” at one stage last season under Dawson. Damien Duff has gone on record saying he thinks he’s the best player in the division too, what does he know about a good winger… If you gave Jarvis the same opportunities Vaughan had, you’d not be comparing him to Danny ****ing Emerton ffs , you don’t have to go against everything people complain about on here you know… He did also sign a deal until 2025 at the start of this season so they re not treating him like your average youth player who only gets 1 year deals.
He doesn’t train very consistently well. Duff has recently said that to the press, but he produces in games. Hopefully he can string together form that’s impossible to ignore because I genuinely think he’s good enough to contribute to us eventually. Lightning quick, predator instincts. Would’ve much rather seen him get the minutes Lokilo had gotten this year…
Donny are unbeaten in 5 since TLT came into the starting 11, being praised a lot for how he dominates his area whilst also being a good shot stopper too.
I don't understand how there's even an argument here. None of us see how Jarvis compares to the rest of our squad when they train together. There's very little else to go on. Clearly the management believe that he isn't worthy of consideration for the first team picture yet. Standing out in the League of Ireland simply isn't enough on its own to make a young player guaranteed a first team breakthrough at a top 6 Championship club. Scoffing at the Danny Emerton comparison is missing the point. He was his generation's Jarvis. Scored for fun at youth level and people always thought surely he'll get a chance soon, he never did and it turned out in hindsight that he was no more than a non-league player. Back then though people were more ready to accept that clearly the player wasn't as good as we'd hoped he was; it wasn't the case that absolutely everything has to be a controversy or conspiracy like it does now.
