Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has been charged with drink-driving after being stopped by police in west London.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper was stopped by a routine patrol in Gloucester Place in the early hours of Friday morning.

Lloris has been at Spurs since joining from Lyon in 2012, making 256 appearances for the Premier League club.

He captained France as they won the World Cup for the second time in Russia this summer.

A Metropolitan Police statement read: "Hugo Lloris, 31, of East Finchley, was charged with drink-driving on Friday, 24 August.

"He has been bailed to return to Westminster Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 11 September."

Stupid ****er, assuming that it's true.
Should be stripped of the captaincy and made to do some drink-driving related community work by the club.
Are we not paying him enough to get the odd taxi, FFS? <doh>

He's really taken on English culture since he's been here.
Seriously, we probably need to hear both sides. If it's a tiny fraction over it's one thing, if he could barely stand up, then it something very much worse.

Barely stand up: he was driving so probably could stand.
Why was he out in the early hours of the morning?
No need to hear another side- you are either over the limit or not. No defence (no pun intended )

Can't imagine Poch will be too impressed.
Don't be surprised to see Vorm play on Monday.
    MP in his press conference:
"The players are focused day by day on their job.'' Er really ?

  8. I've long advocated that the proverbial book should be thrown at the wealthy and priveleged caught drink/driving, especially if they are 'influencers'. So I'm not about to change that opinion because he's a Spurs player.
Unless there's a valid medical excuse - and we do need to hear the full story - not investing in taxis or chauffeur services on the occasional night out is inexcusable.
This also adds a really bad focus and distraction on the club just before an important game and at a time when there's enough bad Press about. He's been a complete prat! <doh>

I expect MV on Monday although will be happy to see Gazza get a game. Just hope the rest of the squad don't let it affect them.

We should at least adopt the fine system from some countries which makes it dependent on income.
Some bloke in Switzerland got fined £650k for speeding. He wouldn't give a crap about a couple of hundred quid.

Why would you want the hassle of driving and parking your car in central London when you can afford taxis whether you're drinking or not?

He`s been a Cupid Stunt, I expect the club will fine him a couple of weeks wages and leave him out against Manure.

One of the last people I’d have expected it from. Idiot though, likely could - and should - cost him the captaincy at both Spurs and France.

For a non-custodial sentence, they should have really ramped
up the fine given his earnings.

That's less than half an average week's wages. It's nowhere near enough.

I would say they have. That's what 50% of his weekly wage. I bet any of us being found guilty of the same thing would get £300-£1000 fine

Half a week’s wages for being over double the limit.

No wonder they say British justice is soft.

Jesus, just read the details. Very lucky not to be banged up. That out of control is disgraceful and absolutely shocking.
