How many managers get a job that's purely on his own terms? at a guess, not many.. Most owners nowadays like to get in on the act unfortunately..it's their toy!

But any manager who is not in charge of basic recruitment of signings is asking for trouble as LJ has found to his cost twice, he is destined to be a scapegoat forever.
I agree, but I think most managers are, that's why we see so many of the same managers out on the circuit as soon as a job becomes available..
I think it's the case of; sometimes it works, other times it doesn't! Rarely does a manager keep his job, gets sacked eventally whether recruitment is on his terms or not!!
Maybe it's me I certainly wouldn't want any job anywhere, where I was at the mercy of somebody else making decisions that have a direct influence on my future. I had the best job ever, the job that I strived to attain after over 25 years of hard work, but I walked after 18 months because of interference from people who wanted to control me and lump more and more of their work upon me, whilst they did less and less, jealous of the fact that they were incapable of doing and achieving what I had and could achieve.
Do I regret it? do I F***, best decision I ever made.

Nose to spite face! There is currently far more managers out of work than in the past ..[ due to high influx of foreign ones?] so unless you get head hunted as "man of the moment" you often have to wait in the que . He has won his bit of silver, left last job 2 pts from top, sacked or whatever, by a 23 year old heir to a £2bn fortune who is likely as are most younger peeps lacking patience and experience. SHOULD HE WANT A JOB.. they will come knocking ... time to get some breakfast!!
Respect & standards seem a thing of the past unfortunately, something I had to deal with on a daily basis with my business.. The majority of people really don't give a hoot and will get away with whatever they can whenever they can...It's the way of the world IMO...survival is one thing, taking the piss is on another level..

You are in an amazing part of the world, where you can be sunning yourself on the beach in a tee-shirt and shorts one moment, then skiing in the mountains a couple of hours drive later!
That region really does have the best of everything - which is why I wanted to retire over there, before Brexit fked up my plans with the 90 day rule - but lets not go there.....

There are a number of ways it can be done:
The most popular way is via the NLV (Non Lucrative Visa). You have to prove that you have an annual income of 34k (Euros) as a couple, without working, to qualify. The visa itself is not very expensive, but what makes the PROCESS expensive is that you have to have private health insurance, which pushes the overall cost up. For me it's costly. but not prohibitive. The NLV allows you temporary residency for 2 years (I believe) after which you need to renew it. Upon the 3rd renewal it becomes permanent - as long as you haven't been in any trouble with the law, or broken the terms of the NLV during that time. You are NOT allowed to do any paid employment in Spain during that time but you have to pay Spanish tax on your 'unearned' income.
I'm watching the Gibraltar-EU negotiations very closely - it's possible that Gibraltar ID card-holders MAY be given unlimited rights to travel to Spain - which would be another way around it. Current 'interim' post-Brexit rules only allow unlimited access to Spain for the red ID card holders. The 90 day rule still applies to holders of the other types of ID cards - and their passports are stamped every time they cross the border. If 'free movement' is expanded to include the other card-holders then that will apply to me. Technically I would be a Gib citizen, but I could live over the border. You only get a red ID card after living in Gib for 10 years.
The third way is to invest 500 Euros in property over there. That entitles you to what they call a 'golden' Visa, giving you residency straight away. In theory I COULD do that, but I don't want to have all that much money tied up in Spain because property doesn't sell quickly over there and it could be a pain for us if we want to come back to the UK for whatever reason.
Before Brexit you could simply buy a house there and move in.

I thought even before Brexit you had to have residency to stay longer than 180 days in a year, I might be wrong. I at one time was looking into it a few years ago.. the golden visa seemed a fairly straightforward option but does tie up your dosh!!
Not sure about Gib but for the NLV for Spain you can only leave Spain for a total of 6 months in the first five years otherwise you lose your visa, after that you only need to Stay in Spain more than the 183 days per annum

As a British Citizen you can move to Gibraltar whenever you want (whenever you can afford to - I compare property rental and purchase costs to that of Brighton in the UK) and stay as long as you want straight away on your British passport.
However, if you want to register there as a 'citizen' then you need to produce 3 month's worth of Utility bills and proof of income if you are still working. If retired, you need to sign your health and pension over to the GHA (Gibraltar Health Authority - their version of the NHS) but if you are still working you need to arrange private health insurance at the cost of approx £4k PA. Assuming you are successful then you will receive a blue ID card which identifies you as a resident of Gibraltar but NOT as a full-on Gibraltarian. This card entitles you to certain benefits including free bus travel and entry to libraries, museums etc, which non-residents and tourists have to pay for. It is THIS card that I will be entitled to if (when) I retire and move out there. However, at present (since Brexit) the blue card does NOT currently entitle you to move freely in the Schengen zone, whereas the RED card does. I'm hoping that this will change with the deal currently being thrashed out between Gib, the UK and the EU. Spain and Gibraltar are keen to allow them, the EU is currently not and the UK doesn't give a flying FK because stopping free movement was one of Brexit's main aims
.The RED card identifies you as a full citizen of Gibraltar and you NORMALLY get this after 10 years residence - I say 'normally' because there are ways to get them quicker - it's a small place and it depends on who you know and/or how much money you have - if you have £2m for example, you can get one straight away. Sadly that is beyond my financial capability.
There are other coloured ID cards too but I'm not sure who gets those - military personnel perhaps? Contract workers there for a short period? Spanish workers who work in Gib? I don't know - and it's difficult to find an exact description of them on the Internet - I've tried!!!!
