Turning it around. Goals are scored on the back of these values.

Using players data tactics can be adjusted. If player A has the ability to place the ball into a specific zone to player B there are analysis models that can predict the expected goals ratio. This quality value and its variables can state the bloody obvious, but also highlight areas for improvement, or tactics to abandon/continue to pursue.

I think this sort of thing is part of what makes football so interesting. There's not often a definite right or wrong answer - managers/teams with seemingly contrasting styles/approaches can both be successful.

One thing I will say though is that it helps if as many people as possible are all pulling in the same direction. I remember reading how former Tottenham and Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas had applied to be manager of Burnley, back when they were in the Championship, by submitting a detailed plan, full of highly technical analysis, but they turned him down on the basis that they didn't think the players would understand. I think it's fair to say he's enjoyed pretty good success in his career, particularly at Porto, but I also think it was probably the right decision by Burnley, who are now enjoying their best period in decades.

LJ uses drones, the SAS, the NHS and mentors for his preparation..
'Every player also has access to the coaching team’s custom-made app on their phones. It features analysis of matches, training and key tactical plans. To edge ahead, Johnson has sought advice from SAS officials and spent a day observing an A&E ward at an NHS hospital to see how employees operate under pressure'.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that you should ONLY use data without any observation added in, and the same the other way around. Only a fool would refuse to take into account all of the information available to them. It's just the extent to which you use one or the other.

Just because a team may have failed to succeed with that approach doesn't mean it's necessarily the wrong one. There are so many different levels and ways to interpret.

There are two types of effort Physical and mental. The psychological side of football is not understood ... Yet. Football neuro science is the next big stage. Old skool coaches will get left behind.

Can see this being the case. I think I've already heard/seen evidence of 'specialists' being brought in to help players visualise themselves in certain situations, to improve confidence & decision-making.

After watching the two matches against Man City, I compare the LJ approach of play style with the Warnock approach of long ball and kick, trip, lunge, stop them anyway you can, I can see the way forward I'd like us to go.

Rock on with the neuro sciences, analytic, zonal models, goal ratios, mental and physical conditioning, that's the way forward.

Though I largely agree with the sentiment, there's a time and a place for being 'direct' - I think the best teams have a style they're renowned for, but are also adaptable enough to deal with the task at hand. Thankfully, I have seen signs of that from City, though Diedhiou and Djuric's injuries made that hard at times.

Bristol City have used psychologists for some time. We as a football, race have had a strange attitude to it. In one breath thinking its mumbo jumbo then in the next stating a player has a crap attitude and does not work hard enough (that is psychological).

As normal the Germans are pioneers. They are a decade at least ahead using neuroscience and its is fact that they have increased players game speed. Germany's mental strength is legend - Mind training.

Brazils implosion in the World Cup was psychological. England Iceland, I have never seen players so mentally stressed to a point the simple was beyond skilled players.

I posted on here that it was my hope that Mr Guardiola would reframe how people view football. Two games v Man City have had an affect on many Bristol City games.

Its a future of four dimensional v the one dimensional (Warnock).
