With what seems like it's gonna be Daglish's philosophy of trying to get some of the best up and coming english players, is he making to the right choice.

Aready got Carroll, chasing Henderson, and Jones at blackburn, and maybe Catts, mixed in with some of the youngsters he already has, and put them together with players like Suarez and kuyt.

It's gonna cost a lot, but has he got the right idea, an English base to his team.

I like the idea, but can it work?

It CAN work, but at the end of the day, it isn't necessarily the most efficient path to take. Having a team full of English players won't make it any better, and with the tendency to overvalue players from England, it could cost more than true value of the squad.
 
Its a plan I'd dearly love to see Bruce follow personally.

Foreign gambles simply dont work for us and we should concentrate on retaining our best young British players and then adding to them with acquired similar ones.

The odd Gyan, Malbranque, Sessegnon is fine but the majority of the squad would be home grown, or home developed for me.
 
Surely the biggest spin-off to the strategy of trying to develop a core of home grown players is the ability to attract the better players as kids because they know they will have a fair opportunity of making the squad.

Interesting to read the comments of Scot Sinclair who claimed he left Chelsea for Swansea because he realised that his prospects were severely restricted because of the club's policy of buying ready-made players. Whether or not he would have ever made the grade at Chelsea is debatable but apparently he cited the fact that John Terry is the only regular member of their squad who came through the ranks, as a cause for concern for him.

Unfortunately it would take a brave owner to go along with the idea because the fans would probably not be prepared for the suffering during the development period. However, one day, someone may give it a bash and I would love it to be SAFC.

John Hall had the same vision up the road and one day I would love the opportunity to ask him why it didn't work.
 
Yeah I think it is a very good strategy what their new owners (FSG) have in place. Daglish & Camollie (Spelling) seem to have things spot on at the minute with transfers and targets etc and then the owners stump up the cash. I can really see Liverpool heading back into title challengers within the next few seasons.

We have a similar policy of only buying players who are young and will have re-sale value etc but last season's loans have crippled us and it looks like none of them will be returning
