Lallana struggled for a while though... Saying that though I said to my best mate (who supports you lot) once Klopp joined that he'd improve massively. As the style would suit him - he played best for us under Poch with similar pressing style. Diego you can't really compare Firminho using his stats in Germany. Most of that league is ridiculously poor... I reckon our current squad (Saints) would finish top 3/4 in the Bundesliga.
Through the stats bit in as a bit of an aside (they love them on here), the bit where I said "did you see him play" was more relevant
Mate I'm not being funny but you seem to get more joy out of Uniteds failures than your success. Do you genuinely hate United more than you love Liverpool? I mean I can relate as our rivalry is equally as fierce... but your stance just seems pretty ****ing sad to be honest...
I know what you are saying but you said they were 'holding him back'. Where as it's clear to me since he's signed he struggled at first and gone from strength to strength since and is constantly improving. Don't get me wrong when he signed I thought he was a waste of money and would struggle whereas Depay (signed in same window) would hit the ground the running and be a huge a success. Shows the best of us can be wrong sometimes Don't get me wrong Diego I really like and respect you as a poster (certainly one of the best of your lot), but I think you're lettiing your bias cloud your judgement on this. I think it's *almost* fact (rather than opinion) that Firminho has been a success so far. I rate him higher than Coutinho anyway who has a great game once in every 4 and everyone raves about.
You are misreading my posts, I think Firmino is a great player, I am just saying that Liverpool didn't develop/make him that way. If you look at all the players they claim to have developed you will find the vast majority were already there, yes they spotted them first or got them cheap but in no way made them. I have been saying for two years that Coutinho is a 1 in 5 player, the odd worldy out of 20 off target shots doesn't change this. A couple of others have expressed the same opinion lately.
That's what I mean mate... I mean us & Pompey is just as (if not more) fierce as your one - though I know most of you would disagree purely based on size of respective clubs. But I don't dislike the skates more than I support my club. I got into a disagreement with s fellow fan on Thursday who tried to start an anti Pompey song 2 minutes after we went one down I mean I know we all dislike our rivals and I'm grateful to have a proper rivalry unlike Chelsea, Leicester etc. But to dislike them more than I support my own team is a mentality that I will never understand tbh...
The size of the club has no relevance to the way you feel, a rivalry is a rivalry. It only makes a difference to TV viewing figures
I'm not misreading your posts at all. You said Liverpool were 'holding him back'... that's what I'm disputing. You can say that they haven't really improved him but imo that's simply not true. I think the PL is the most competetive in the world when you take into account the quality of the bottom half sides. Taking the above into the account, I think that anyone who comes from a foreign league and succeeds has improved purely by consistency and having to play at 100% every week. I remember Graziano Pelle saying in an interview that in Holland he could play at 60-70% and still be effective whereas here he had to be at his best every week whether it was United away or Swansea at home, which brings me nicely to my next point... Firminho, fair enough I can say there's an argument to be had (even if I disagree). But to put Suarez in that group is clearly biased bollocks imo. Suarez was already a very good player when 'Pool signed him... but while he was there he developed to one of the best in the world - I personally think he's been the best player in the world for the past few seasons (his 31 goals in an otherwise fairly average Liverpool side is more impressive to me than Ronaldo & Messis 50 odd in La Liga) though that's a different debate really. I agree he's a ****, a massive **** at that... but to say he didn't improve while at Liverpool is biased and similar to Saints fans who say Pompey didn't deserve their fa cup cos they played Cardiff in the final... ignoring the fact they won at OT on the way.
I know it's easy to say as I support Saints... but I genuinely think that Saints/Pompey is up there with the best derbies in the country. The fact that throughout history generally when one side is doing well the other one is struggling only adds to the spice. In a way I don't think it would be the same if we played each other every season like others. Also it's a civic rivalry (similar to yours I believe) not just football (you get non football fans who hate Portsmouth - the city and the residents) and I'm not advocating trouble etc. But the fact our last league games were 'bubbled'* show how much it means to people and how fierce it is. I believe it's one if only around 3 in the uk who have this. *I'm assuming you all know what I mean by bubbled... what they do in Holland for Ajax/Feyernoord... though if anyone doesn't I'm happy to explain
In Liverpool "bubbled" used to mean grassing someone up, don't know if it is still used in that context as I am of a certain age.
Welcome to the Bollocks we have to put up with on a daily basis on here lol. Only time it's not an issue is when we say how ****e we are. yet any positivity about our club dif story. Laughable really.
Exactly, when we've been ****e over recent seasons we've called it as it is on our board, not a murmour from visiting posters about our honesty, then when we get a decent manager and make a marked improvement the majority of visiting posters tell us.."its a poor league"..."the ref was bent"..."there's only 10 games gone"..etc. They spent so many years getting used to putting us down it'll break their little hearts if ever we do actually become the genuine article on a consistent basis.
They lurk on every match thread we have. if we lose they all come out the woodwork lol. yet we win not a soul in sight lol. Must have all gone to Barbados together We don't compliment a team we are bitter. yet for us its always dodgy ref red card pen should have been given against us lol. No wonder half the people can't be bothered to post on here.
Reading through last nights posts was quite funny. Everton get spanked so everyone floods our board to tell us how **** we are very strange
Southampton would be lucky to get top 6 in the Bundesliga. I think you are really underestimating the strength of the teams in the Bundesliga.
Got to admit I've avoided posting recently as I do find some of the "banter" a bit tedious. Anything positive is taken out of context, we can't state anything about another team without conclusions being drawn to us it's ridiculous
Yeah, a game being 'bubbled' means there are too many childish knobheads in your fan base who aren't able to go to a game without being massive bellends and trying to fight people because they've got a different coloured shirt on.
Suarez was a very good player before he joined Liverpool. The reason he didn't move to a bigger club at the time was because of his ill discipline. Firmino has yet to reach the levels of his BuLi days but as we saw with Suarez, it takes a little time to get used to a new team, new country, new culture. The similarities between the two are striking - if Firmino can improve his finishing, then we're onto a winner.
