Agree that Monk has done a good job and deserves praise....I'm sure there is a danger that he could perceive favouritism if Laudrup selects Chico. If it happens it needs to be managed carefully and Monk, and any allies/discontents, kept on board. Professional players should be able to get their heads around the fact that sometimes the opposition you face require different tactics and sometimes different personnel without perceiving a slight against themselves personally.
Hard game to call, when the season started we were defensively naive, but we're now unbeaten in 7 and our defense looks better with each passing game. Still, Swansea now are a very good team, who play some of the best football in the league, and of course Michu is always dangerous. We'll probably go three up front, with Suarez in the middle and Suso and Sterling either side, hopefully Enrique will be at LB because he's good at dealing with pacy wingers. As for the middle, it's hard to call, the safe bet would be Gerrard, Allen and Sahin, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Henderson or Shelvey in there instead of Sahin. Here's hoping for a similar game to the one in the COC, in terms of pure football and no dodgy decisions
Your extra win puts you only 1 point instead of 3 ahead of us due to your extra defeat, so not getting beaten has been more beneficial to us than your extra win has to you because as i pointed out we've only had the benefit of having one striker so this season. It's deceiving when you only looked at the part of the picture that suited you.
Clutching at straws? It shows where Liverpool are at the moment when you're comparing results with little old Swansea
I compared us with every team from 4th down originally and then focused on the theme of the thread....Swansea v Liverpool. It's not straw clutching by us that we're at possibly the weakest era in our history, yet still in Europe due to a trophy win and only 5 points off a Europa spot next season.
I see some Jacks are debating whether to start Monk or Chico! It's a no brainier for us purists, Chico all day long, he adds a goal threat on corners in the opposition box, great going forward, technically streets ahead of Monk, and not afraid of the tackle, besides his Kung Fu is deadly............
Monk has stepped up and proved a very capable deputy. But Chico was bought as first choice to partner Ash and I doubt that Laudrup has changed his thoughts on the matter. Garry would be unlucky to be benched but Chico is by far the more mobile and this will be needed to try and keep on top of Suarez who is scoring for fun right now. Also, as has been pointed out, Chico offers a far more potent aerial threat at set pieces. His presence will occupy the Pool defenders, who will remember his goal at Anfield, and this will free up space for the likes of Michu. Suarez, amongst others, will prove a handful, so good luck to whoever gets that particular job.
Yes we won the cup game lads , but this is diffrent ball game lads and from past experance if you won say the league game you lost the cup game, playing the same team so close only 2 wks or so apart, and ive seen it with the Swans over the yrs, my heart says a win my head says a draw or L/Pool to win , hopefully im wrong and we put it over Rogers.which ever way it goes it will be one hell of a game going on sat, game he could keep the same team
Not too bothered if we draw or lose this so long as we get through it without any injuries and without Suarez getting another yellow so as we are 100% for Spurs. I'd rather beat Spurs than Swansea if I had to choose as at least Swans show humility and remain realistic whereas Spurs fans are on the other extreme, think their something they ain't and have become so entitled after 3 seasons of moderate success. They need a reality check, whereas Swans don't so I'd love to beat Spurs on their home patch so if that means we have to lose to Swansea then so be it.
monk deserves his place without a shadow of doubt but i like to play players that will be suited to who we are playing and for the Liverpool game i would select chico....my reason is he gives us a better chance of scoring when we have corners or free kicks in Liverpool half, so for me and its unfortunate but monk has to be on the bench for this one.....This game has a draw written all over it as brendans team can pass the ball as good as we can and i expect most of the game will be in the middle of the pitch.....they can match us in every department and are better up front than we are with suarez and sterling a real danger. they have only lost 3 games all season and will fancy their chances against us and we must be 100% focused for this one....I think it will be a draw game with some neat football by both sides and anyone can take control if allowed and if that happens the team in control will win. I dont think that will happen and thats why i think it will be a draw.....cant wait...
Yes in regards to Chico over Monk you all make some valid points. His pace and aerial ability is what will get Chico his place on Sunday. Monk really does deserve a lot of credit and has shown once again we can depend on him.
we would miss monks captain superiority though. he has been outstanding in recent games that allows ash to concentrate on his job. Ash does tend to make errors when he is captain so we have to be careful there....
