You won't want to hear this, but Colback was fantastic today. Well pleased with him. It'll be a great battle on Derby day. Cattermole should have a little bit more experience than Colback though.

    What??!! Based on what?!

He's just about worth a starting berth but that's crazy talk. Has never at any point been as good as Catts, JOS and Larsson have been in recent weeks.

I'm talking about pure ability. I said clearly 'Catts is more important'.

If you are suggesting that due to a reasonable run of form any of those 3 are a better footballer, ability wise, than Giacc, then I really will be staggered.

It's not a matter of comparing form, more assessing individual qualities. Giacc's vision, touch, passing, technique and reading of the game, he trounces the rest imo, easily the best player we've had I'd say since Big Mensah I reckon. We've had dreadful luck injury wise when we've managed to bring in true class. Hopefully Giacc's stop start Sunderland career is over for him and he can get some continuous game time in.

Manage them nicely up to the derby then unleash them full force.

How many points does this 'ability' get you? What do u mean by that, flair?

The only thing that matters is how much you affect the game and he hasn't really done that consistently enough to be heralded our best player IMO.

A centre back will never have the close control of an attacking player but I'd say JOS, Wes, Catts, Seb, are all more influential than he has been. From an attacking POV, Fletch and AJ too.

I'd just about give Giacch one of the wide berths but he isn't a certain starter for me. I wouldn't dream of not starting those others mentioned

I'm not fronting Giacc as an influential player myself like, not sure where that's come from. I just think he's the closest player to world class we have in our squad. Just my opinion like.

Larsson scored 1 league goal last season, Giacc scored 4, in a third of the games.

He also had 5 more assists than Seb.

He barely played initially but come seasons end was vital, he was also stand out pre-season before injury.

I'm not slating other players, but Giaccc fit and with a run would easily produce more than the others, easily.

Nobody suggested he was more important or influential, but he is absolutely a better footballer.

Based on international reputation, you may be right.

But he still has to prove himself in the PL, and for me he's nowhere near that point yet.

And that won't happen without a sustained starring role, week-in week-out.

This is it, we need him to have a run of games without being crocked, end of the season he was fit and he did a lot of damage, but yeah, ability is nothing if you ain't on the park.

I read today Larsson has created 28 chances this season. Of the last 4 managers we've had, they've all picked him for virtually every game, despite lots of us wondering why. Gus called him 'close to the perfect midfielder' this week.

Don't get me wrong, I think Giacch can be a very good player for us, he just hasn't done enough yet to cement his place in the side. Looking at AJ, Alvarez and recent displays by Connor, maybe he'll raise his game to force his way into the side. I hope so

Well this is my point about us not having any luck on the injury front when we do get class in. From what I've seen from him for us has been fantastic so far. He played 24 games in the league last season, to get an idea of his game time in those games, taking into account time coming from the bench and being taken of around the hour mark, he averaged 56 minutes of pitch time per appearance. he gave created 29 chances, gave us 4 goals and 4 assists. This a player new to the league with injuries breaking up his game time. I think those stats are great, not only that he look great doing it. Hope he stays fit as I'm expecting him to deliver more of the stats that matter.

i get you, larsson is an international on every level, more often than not he flatters to decieve, when you watch him in real time he make you think he's strolling, when in fact he really dictates play, i was happy when he signed a new contract and still am, he's a ****ing good player
