If I read your bleeped swear words correctly, then f****** well said, TS. The media go on about ex-Saints players being injured for this club or that club, or even current injured Saints players, as if SFC didn't even exist. But excuse me if we make the point that if we didn't keep getting our prized players plucked away from us, we'd almost certainly be vying for a top 4 place ourselves, and after a few years of doing that, we'd have the financial clout to be able to pay those players. So let's have no sob stories from the likes of Liverpool, because if there's case to be made for sob stories we have plenty of evidence for one. Not that we will, because us soft southerners are made of stern stuff.
Didn't see or listen to any of the game, but reading up about it, it sounds like it was a dire as anything. Not overly surprising. Very good point though, and we're almost certainly just two wins away from finishing 8th (which we can get without needing to get anything from Utd or Arsenal - although neither of those games are as scary as they once would have been). At a push I would say we need another seven points. WBA and Leicester both have tough run-ins.
Ian As a footie fan watching the Saints since the seventies, I have to question why you would moan about a defensive poi t away to Liverpool. We have now played them 4 times this season and not conceded a goal. The pessimist would day defensive tactic s. The optimist would say we done Puell. I have observed with interest the debates on this forum and I think some of the films have been slightly inpatient with you. But to suggest that today's result in unsatisfactory just under lines unrealistic expectations for our club. Any draw away to Liverpool is a good result
It is interesting to see how the fortunes of former Saints have varied. Bale has done by far the best and I wonder just how many Saints fans would have predicted he would have ended up at Real Madrid. I was shocked that Morgan did not pull up trees at Man Utd but I think this probably has more to do with the management he served under. The contingent at Liverpool is more interesting. I always thought that Lallana was a class act and he is probably one of the best English players around at the moment. Merrington was on about Bertrand attracting attention being a "ready made" player. The most noticeable thing about Liverpool is that they always seemed to retain a local identity within their playing staff but they now seem to rely on signings to keep up with the competition as opposed to producing world class players on their own accord. You can see why so many of our senior players would be attractive to a team like Liverpool but I don't think they are a CL team anymore.
Ian. I think that all Saints fan that watched Bale in his first season at 17 knee he was going to the very top, it is the shame the board of director s did not and sold him for £5m, even with the financial difficulty
Steve Can you honestly say you are enjoying the football this season ? I will praise when the performances merit it but this is just far too infrequent under this current regime. Not impressed in the slightest by what has been served up this season. If the BBC are suggesting that the first half of the match was the worst 45 mins in the PL this season, I would question those lauding Puel's result. Football is supposed to be about scoring goals - this is very difficult to do if you coach your players not to take the ball out if your own half!! I am staggered that some people on here are so positive about what has been largely under-whelming. More fun watching non-league this season, to be honest. I've ben a supporter for over 40 years and this is one of the first times I have been bored watching this team play. The entertainment value is practically nil. If you are going to fork out £600 for a season ticket, surely I have a right to complain. Try reading the DE website if you think I am being negative!!
I understand that Fraser Forster has been added to the Liverpool shopping list after today. Hey, why not evaluate the entire squad.?
Agreed but I was actually more disappointed about Walcott going at the time as he seemed to have enjoyed a reputation even before making his debut and we didn't get enough time to appreciate his talent. Oddly, he is one of the players who I thought would have gone better as I thought he would become a kind of English Thierry Henri. Not convinced that Wenger is actually the best option for British players.
Ian We were away to Liverpool. They used to dick us at every game at An field. You are now skating the manager for getting a pont there. To me that is unbelievable. Maybe moan at results at home, but not at places like Anfield- it just reflects badly upon yourself
Clipperty complaining about the pitch being too dry, can we flog him our watering system, it's ruined a few games this season by overuse.
I agree , I thought Walcott would have gone on, but for me there was never any doubt that Bale would become the player he not is, ever since he curled in that FK against Derby on debut
You definately have a point Ian, nobody is arguing that this has been a scintillating season. Point of being a supporter is that you praise and celebrate a dull away point at Anfield and piss and moan when its 0-0 at home to Hull. You're not doing it right when you piss and moan at both. If we'd been stuffed 4-0 and but had 6 attempts on goal nobody would be patting Puel on the back, you least of all I would imagine. That was a very dull game of football but we continue to frustrate Liverpool who I have come to deeply resent over the last 5 years : )
Ian Do you actually believe that Puel is coaching the players not to take the ball out of their own half?
No Mane and Henderson plus Lallana and Sturridge on the bench ?????? They have humiliated us at Anfield in the past but I think they have been weakened by injuries of late and the form has declined since January. As I said, on the recent performances I think 0-0 was pretty much on the cards. If we had played well and failed to convert chances, you could have been pleased. Sitting back for a 0-0 when nothing was at stake? Not sure that many of those people who trekked up to Liverpool to follow the Saints would have agreed. For me, this season has been all about the spectacle. We are no longer entertaining to watch. Seems to me that most people posting here are more interested than the results than how we play in achieving them. It seems very strange reading some of the posts on here after what was apparently a dreadful match to watch. Saints have been bad in the past, of course but I find it hard to extol the virtues of having everyone play a defensive role. It certainly worked as Liverpool were largely contained.
Don't know why Ian gets so much hate, really. We are boring as **** to watch more often than not. Truth be told, very few people will be upset if Puel leaves at the end of the season. Even the ones who wouldn't mind if he stays.
