The game is a disaster, the result an embarrassment, but the real damage is the hammer blow to our goal difference which was already fragile comparted to those around us. Come the end of the season that could really hurt us.
I don't think goal difference will come into it, we're not winning the league and, unless the wheels really come off, nor are we going to fall out of the top four.
Although I suppose he 'tried'. Fernandes though? Asking to come off ffs. Hopefully never plays for us again.
I was half expecting us to lose so don't feel so gutted. Not by this scoreline mind, but makes little difference. What matters is how we respond and make sure we get back on track.
Doesn't really make it easier, but it is just one game in the scheme of the season. Absolutely correct that it's how they respond. The idea we were in a title race is blown out of the water, so at least that's put to bed! Couple of nagging doubts in my mind after this though; Was Dalot staying on the pitch a refusal to accept a (****ing mega) mistake? What the **** was Bruno's attitude all about? Why did Casemiro come out second half wearing an invisibility cape? If Maguire and Sancho aren't deemed able to 'help out' today, what the actual **** does Ten Hag know that we don't? What did he say at half time?!?!
I think I heard Casemiro had a knock in the first few mins. He didn't look right all game. What's worrying is if he's out again. I said in the West Ham game Bruno looked visibly knackered. I wonder how much that affected his attitide today in a game where he just couldn't deal with the intensity. I'll also add he's been poor for a while imo. He has moments where he can turn a game with an assist but he's been getting dispossessed or giving the ball away too much over the past couple of months. Overall I think it's important to remember all the clubs around us have 3/4 years+ head start. We are making good progress and I'll say this, Ten Hag will learn more from this and we'll improve more from it, than some of our wins recently. He's a top manager and just like after the results at the start of the season he'll make us better.
He did look injured, but he should have been taken off sooner. First rule of management, (or should be) if they aren't 100% hook them off. Mad he left it so late. If Bruno is burnt out, then there has to be a game soon when he doesn't play. Probably should have been against West Ham. Maybe get the first Betis game out of the way and then give him a rest? Saints at home then, surely he doesn't need to play that! Ten Hag will learn from this.
Yeh makes me wonder what he was thinking? He either didn't trust anyone above a half fit Casemiro OR he's been lulled into thinking we could manage through another tough game after the comebacks in games against Barca and West Ham, and beating Newcastle? Maybe it's a bit of naivity thinking we could keep pushing through with our most important players, even if they're not 100%. But I look at our midfield options without Bruno and Casemiro and I can see why he keeps persisting with the same players. Especially when you're playing in 3 competitions and every game is make or break. What do you do? We don't have the depth.
It is about negotiating the remaining games with what we've got. Today was a mistake. Can see why Casemiro stays on because he's so good (when fully fit) but both Maguire and Sancho are big squad players and neither got a kick, I find that a bit baffling. I'm not yet bothered by goal difference in the league as I genuinely think only Liverpool are actual rivals for 3rd and 4th, always have. Hope this doesn't knock morale for the two cup comps though. There just seemed to be that bad attitude from under Ole and Rangnick creeping in today.
He's a quality manager. He'll do things right and, coupled with the budget you have, he make you a great side again in time.
Casemiro is your best player imo. I think third is already yours. Don't see us or anyone else catching you. We've got Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal after each other soon, guaranteed to drop points in that little run. However, I've been saying for weeks, fourth is very doable.
AWB should have started! The way that he’s been playing, he would have made massive difference today. I also rate Sancho highly over Antony. Hopefully this game is reset to get refresher legs back into the team.
It won't I'm sure of it. We were running on empty and today we deserved to lose. Those players under Ten Hag have been great, but it was a game too far. One game won't change that but the loss today will regalvanise them. My only concern is tiredness and injury to key players.
