This.. they way to beat teams who's first intention is to pack the defence is to try and score the first goal.
Also, if you don't it is to remain patient and don't let the team intent on defending score a goal on the counter.
That's why we shot ourselves in the foot against Burnley, poor start, weren't patient and got hit on the counter for their second.
Think we learnt more from that loss than we did in any of our wins..

 

Agree about teams that play defensively but not sure we have learnt anything from the burnley game. We have not altered how we play since then and quite right too. People talk about burnley as though it was a bad performance but that is merely based on the score. Burnley was a freak result that happens every now and again and despite us not being at our best we still had 80% possession 26 shots as opposed to their 3 yes thats right a grand total of three shots and the one they didnt score with was off target! Oh yes they also had 1 corner to our 12. They barely had the ball in our half so whilst I would not like that result again I would quite happily take those stats in every game knowing that it is likely to result in wins in the vast majority of games.

 

Not saying we played bad against Burnley, more to the point that against teams like this, that set out to defend defend and defend, if they get a goal up, then they're more resolute in carrying out the game plan, had we been half decent in front of goal that day, we win that game 4 or 5 - 2!

 

How many of our shots were long range efforts though? 26 shots. It they were t like the ones we had yesterday where Can, Firm both had very good chances.

 

That has been winding me up for nearly two seasons now.
Not bothered who it was for or against but on Monday night against Utd the rule was remembered as a retake goal kick was awarded.
Basic rules not being known is unacceptable at the top level

 

Seem to remember ford having about half a dozen goes from his favourite spot and being a bit wasteful but we all know he is capable from there also. I think we have got better since then anyway as players gain confidence momentum and just get used to each others role.

 

Imo those 26 have 5 on target. Too many players tried lashing **** at goal and not picking a ball through. That's the point about patience. Klopp said so.

True, but Marius Crater is on the moom. It was one of the proposed sites for the Apollo XV landing before they chose Hadley Rille.

 

Was good to see Gini back. It was a cameo but he created one big chance for Firmino - that composure in the box is what we need.

Thought Can was excellent and found his rhythm. Firmino is brilliant isn't he - such a clever player. Coutinho is hitting a real purple patch as well.

Before the game, I was gonna say that Mane has been off the boil recently but he responded very well. It's even better watching copying Phil and Bobby's celebration each time.

 

I am a little apprehensive about Palace game, hope we do not suffer any injury before then.

 

Cut off the supply from the wings and we should win it. We know more than most that Benteke is toast without a supply. If we don't do this, he'll bag a couple.....easily against our back line!!
