Match Day Thread Liverpool V West Brom- Premier League

I was in the pub watching the game and I said to my girfriend "we'll chuck away a goal in the 80th minute from a set piece and let them right back in to it", low and behold, it happens.. But, for now, this is Liverpool. We have a keeper who doesn't inspire confidence and a defence who will always cough up a chance.

BUT, I'll take this defence to watch our attack. Thought we were brilliant yesterday (after we broke the deadlock), the front three of Couts, Mane and Firmino is just brilliant to watch, all bringing that extra something and it works really well. Firmino being the pick of the bunch, when he first joined I really slated him but he is looking like such a brilliant player.. With work rate to go with it, currently for me he is our most important player.

Nice to see Coutinho show a little bit of consistency as well, think that's 5 goals for him now? 1 in 2 isn't a bad return and to be fair it's not a surprise to see him score anymore.

Really just rolling with this, taking the lows with the highs because we all know how inconsistent we're going to be this season, but despite everything we sit second with 20 out of 27 and a bagful of goals... Hope we continue playing like this.

 

Not sure if this has nbeen mentionef yet on here . Just watched MOTD and was shocked that they ignored that the WBA goal was offside, we shouldn't have been shyte enough to concede it but is clearly should have been ruled out.

That said and done, like magic ted has just said it is fabulous to watch us play like this.

 

Didn't spot that, thought we had a player on the line? Could be wrong.

Also, regarding defence, we should definitely be building it around Matip, he's easily the best defender we've had since Hyypia, Carra, Agger... Get a solid keeper behind him and we're singing.

 

Could do with somebody uploading a clip or gif of the goal.
Agree on matip although he's still not finished article for me but I think that might just be about him getting used to the players around him.

 

All I know is we wasted 3 glorious chances before they score and 2 more after so a complete job is going and winning easy.

I called that we would concede one from set piece before game didn't I.


I will call it now that we will concede off a cross to benteke who will isolate clyne at the far stick v palace.

 

Yeah we have some gaping weaknesses, as you say Clyne will be isolated with Benteke who will have the jump on him all day, Clyne can also go wondering occasionally.

I've accepted that this is just the theme of this side, our attack needs to turn up and I am fine with that, we practically play with a front five and I'm fine with conceding a few goals. Burnley proves to be an anomaly so far.. Our defence is gradually improving as is our defensive shape, and the set pieces come from the keeper IMO, there's no dominance or communication in there so we're gonna ship goals.

Whatever happens, it's nice to say watching us play is just exciting.. The last two seasons under Rodgers were just boring.

 

It really is first goal wins.

The fact is matip and lovern are tall enough and can adds a bit coming in but when those three are strung aong the 6 yards line the others then seem in capable of staying with their men cos every second ball that drops seems to be a chance.

Also.. what's with the inquest.. Did we lose?

Did many players have a shocker? I don't recall any...

Yes, we made a mistake at the corner, and
Yes, we weren't as clinical as we should been, we should have been 4-0 before they scored..
But the movement, the patience, possession, the defence (for the most part), the control we had in midfield and the attacking flair/movement, was a joy to watch!

Yes, mate, we should have killed them off, but we didn't but we did win..
We may not play as well next time but bang in 4.. sods law..
But for now, I'll take the win and the obvious improvement we continue to make under Klopp in all sections of the pitch!

 

Its important imo to show sides that try 631 formation what happens.

Imo other sides need to take note.

 

Problem is other teams have also noted that one shot on target like yesterday is often enough to score.

 

6-3-1 formation depends on who makes up that formation.
Untied had more quality than West Brom, so they can and did make that formation work..
Thankfully, not all teams have the quality of United so for the most part, if teams do turn up with that type of formation, then this game against West Brom is a blue print on how we should deal with those sides.
Teams that open up and come to play, they'll get some success against us, but with these teams wanting to play, they'll open up to our counter and high press if they aren't your typical Jose Pulis, or Tony Mourinho sides!

 

Thought we were ****ing brilliant yesterday, but should have scored far more. West Brom scored and then panicked us a little, but we still dominated that last 10 minutes and had a couple proper clear chances. The team should only be disappointed that we didn't score 5 or more.

 

I for one enjoyed the game yesterday. West Brom aren't a bad side, not the worst we'll come across in the league, and when they opened up a bit passed it around quite well. I would watch games like that all day over the drear fest that Uniterd serve up. I'm not going to watch the game this afternoon cos we know what that ****'ll be like.

 

I said that at the time it went in, guy was standing on Karius blocking him getting out. Clearly interfering wth play.

 

But you also only get 1 shot on target every 80 minutes

 

Refs don't know the rules, the same entering the box during a GK foul happened again yesterday

 

I thought it at the time but there was no mention of it so wanted to see it again. In some ways you can forgive not seeing it in the chaos of our defending but for MOTD to miss it is sheer incompetence.
