Just heard the team. Right, so we're totally giving up on a EL place then and staking everything on against Sevilla. Must be, to give some players an 18-day rest.
Could do with benteke getting couple goals even if they are tap ins or pens. I know we bash him but going into Europa final, if we need a goal in lasst 20 it'd be nice to have a relatively confident benteke to come on off the back of a couple of good performances in the league.
We'll play a stronger team v Chelsea with more of the regulars before resting them against brom. We have 4 games in 10 days, if we play strong team in every game they'll be knackered by time final comes round
All for resting them for the West Brom game. no need before then. We'll go into the EL final seriously undercooked. We did this in the run-up to the 2007 CL final too (and 2005, to a lesser degree).
So you want us to play strong team v Sevilla on Thursday then strong v Watford today then strong v Chelsea on wed? Just don't think need to risk it. Not like watford are on some awesome run, they're bottom half on their holidays and half of the team we are playing are internationals. The back 5 are all internationals, Allen is, Cout is, benteke is, it's only Stewart, Ibe and Ojo that aren't.
lucas cb again? i know he has done alright there, but dont we have other cbs who should get a look in? caulker still on books or is he injured, not fancied etc?
i think dongas point? is we need some sort of form going into it, as it fecked us up in 2007 for the final resting players. trouble is, is it worth the risk ie injuries?
But if we play a strong team on wed v Chelsea then we aren't really resting them. They're having a week off which is what you'd usually give going into a final. If final was week sat then sure play strong team v brom but to ask them to play 3 tough games in a row within a week then play the final when we have no real quality depth and injuries/suspensions to deal wth is too much.
yeah i said that, its a balancing act, you want the form going into a final(it was probably what cost us in 07) but at the same time injuries a worry. i think personally, bollocks to the league, give fringe or youngsters a chance to impress, but balance it with key players to give them confidence so hopefully we get results going into the final. its all swings and fecking roundabouts, hindsight is a wonderful thing
Mig Skrtel Moreno Lucas Allen Cout Benteke are all first team internationals. Flanno is experienced. It's hardly like we're playing the kids
thats 2 players really to shout about. if you disagree fair enough just my opinion and i did say should give more youngsters a chance in what most consider a pointless game.
