Firmino has been inconsistent, but that seems to be improving. His stats are pretty good for someone that is largely passing under everyone's radar. His passing is the weakest part of his game, gives the ball away too often. But he's a Klopp type player, he works hard and has obvious talent. He's our POTY for me based solely on his mugging of Soldado.
He's got an interesting knack... He's deffo a mix of kuyt and garcia. Kuyt got vital goals and assists... but garcia had the magic but gave it away constantly. firmino does both. his best game was villareal but thats europe so you'd love him to go do that in the prem.. at a higher pace game and really set the tone like a silva would have when fit. thats what we need him to do. We need someone to be consistent and be the guy. Coutinho has 12 goals in 40 games this year... not bad... but still feels like he's only there 1 in 3 or 4. Firmino has 11 in 47.... Lallana has 7 in 47. sturrdige has 12 in 23... (so far) so.... really fair play to them for making that bit of a step up there and getting a few more than last term but we need to see those goals consistently next year and have the competition so that maybe they get those 10/12 goals over 10 less games.
10-12 each is a decent return from F&C if we have an out and out striker bagging 20+. That's the problem we've had - AM has been having to carry the burden for the goals, and it isn't really their game.
Yeah... well.... Benteke plus sturridge = that 20 goals. I just feel we've got close by the the same old self destructive issue have existed in the backs and midfield and we just don't have good control to go with it. I think once we got off the fa cup bus and caught a breath we got players back and really improved. You can see it in our records. Last year we were up and down and generally struggled for goals. This year I'm not sure who to judge it off but we've done ok. Actually it's the 7 away games lost and 27 goals conceded that hurt as well as 7 draws at home including games like newkie, Sunderland west brom etc. It's fine margins but I feel klopp just needs a better defense and a bit more in that second line to allow for rotation. Bit of control of the games and ability to see games out. Klopp's got to get that stuff sorted.
Klopp has done great work with the attack and it will only get better. The key to the attack is the system and ensuring everyone is contributing. We're no longer reliant on one person, nor do we need to spend £32m on a 'proven goalscorer'.
Considering we've been scoring goals whilst Sturridge was out, using an AM as a false 9 or even using a 19 year old, the emphasis is clearly on the system employed and the support around the attackers than just having one person. Don't get me wrong, I would love Lewa or Suarez but as we saw under Rodgers, take Suarez out and we capitulated. Klopp constantly had to sell big players at Dortmund but still remained competitive. I read a stat on how Liverpool are the first team this season to have 4 players to score 10 PL goals. #TeamGame
