Although everyone will agree that there is still a huge amount of improvement to be made, I agree, that today was a step in the right direction. Some of the link up play was sublime on the right hand side of the pitch. I feel that our turn around could be solved pretty quickly, by playing Routs and Montero on the wings with Ayew up top. Monk MUST understand that Ayew is not a winger, and until he stops picking him in this position, we will continue to have this huge imbalance in our side. Also thought with the linking up with Routs, Naughton had possibly his best game for us today.
Tbh I'd rather start with Cork to wear down midfield and when the opposition start to fade, bring Leon on with his crisper, fast, sharp passing to control the game. Leon must have a much bigger role in the team. However, for certain games, i.e passing teams, I'd start with Leon. Once he got up and running, he showed that he still has got the ability to control games for us.
A bit more kick and run using the triangles that served us well before would be good less sideways and backwards passing drilled into thier nuts which Leon could control from the middle if given more game time to get back up to speed ?
I would leave JJ out until last 20 mins if we are down by a couple of goals or ahead by a few goals !
That'll be me putting him into my FF team... Same with Sigg & Martial who has been as good as Rooney since I put him in after scoring v LFC
This. But for me that is the managers' fault. He was tearing every team a new one right up to the Manu match. Then what happens? He is inexplicably dropped by Monk in our next match away to Watford. Then he gets dropped again in our next away match to Southampton. Since then he hasn't played the same. It wouldn't be unrealistic to assume that his confidence got destroyed as he must have thought he was playing so well, then for no reason at all got dropped to the bench by Monk.
I agree with Valley. If we sell Jonjo we could use the money to strengthen other areas and still be strong in midfield with Grimes knocking on the door as well.
Also, teams quickly started doubling up, closing him down and making him ineffective. And that's because there's no winger the other side to stretch the play... as everyone's been saying for ages. I think Monk's had us all bemused!
