Actually, there is no "last man" rule, the rule refers to stopping an obvious goal scoring opportunity.
we deserved the point Wes Brown was immense. I thought Caroline showed a lot of commitment and passion to be fair the the lad -Henderson was pretty shide and is their bad (SAFC Academy) rivalry between him and Jack Colback. Call it what you will SAFC, a draw was a fair result - you lost all shape in the second half.
this is why multi-threads are a bad idea, as you get dragged into people chatting absolute rubbish. Suarez was clearly tripped by Richardson, and as several people have said he was merely shifting the ball round the keeper, and would effectively had an open goal. Either way it was a clear goalscoring chance so he should have seen red. We dominated the first half at a canter, and only have ourselves to blame for not finishing it there and then. Sunderland had one Gyan header and the goal as their only decent chances, and despite our poor passing second half had no extended period of pressure. We edged it on balance, you guys deserved your point for sticking at it. Grudgingly Wes Brown did very well.
I had only just watched it how can I be thinking back on it through rose tinted glasses? (Muppet!) I look back at the 73 FA cup final through rose tinted glasses though. You ran riot first half? You must have watched a different game to me. (And if you were posting on here you must have missed all those corners we were winning and not taking advantage of! ) Second half Sunderland were the much better team even your own are admitting that.
did you actually see it it was a ****ing wreckless studs up challenge in the middle of the park no ****ing need at all
Sunderland fans will you stop moaning. You got a draw, and after our first half performance I'd be happy with that if I were you. It was clearly a penalty, clearly. He makes contact with Suarez when he's one on one with the keeper, he's asking for a penalty there. I think he was fortunate not to get a red, because even though it was no malicious or particularly dangerous, it cheated us out of a goal and when you tackle a player from behind when he's one on one with the keeper, you should expect a red card. Carra actually went for the ball, and his other leg trailed catching the player. Yellow card offence, nothing more due to the fact studs weren't raised and Carra aimed for the ball with his leading foot outstretched. I feel disappointed we didn't take anything from that game, we really should have considering our first half form but after the Sunderland goal we lost fight and were back to equal terms. If Gerrard was playing at that point, he would have provided a rally, unfortunately we had nobody to do that. There were only a few things I picked out that we could have done better in the second half: 1. We were giving away the ball due to sloppy passing, we were pretty good with sharp passing in the first half, but in the second half it was all far too heavy or too light footed and so we ended up giving away the ball too much. When gifting the ball to the opponents you're going to invite pressure and put things on an even keel unfortunately, which is how they managed to get back into the game. If they'd have stayed calm after Sunderland's first goal and built up quickly with sharp passing then we could have walked out with a win. 2. Suarez was not his usual self, even if the first half he looked visibly tired. It was probably a bad idea to play him in this game, despite his goal he just couldn't spear the attack. 3. Players were not moving about enough off the ball. This is why it's always good to have someone like Kuyt on the field, he inspires other players to run but in the second half whilst he wasn't on, we were too stationary. Losing balls, running back but then nobody dared go back up in case we let one in. Far too cautious, and hopefully it's something Kenny will try and improve on in the future. Congratulations on the draw Sunderland, your fans were very gracious before the game and we had some good banter.
Not really a good idea to call me a muppet, you've just reinforced my belief that you're incapable of debate. First half we were obviously the better team, go back to that period in this thread and check out all of the comments. Everyone was saying it, including Sunderland fans. Go onto the Live commentary and you'll also see the same. We were on top of the game and unlucky not to get more than one goal. Second half we were nowhere near as good as the first half, but you were not "by far the better team." Both teams had chances and I still maintain we were unlucky not to win the game. If you want to talk psychology then; Since the 2nd half is your more recent memory of the same match, many of the events before said time are influenced through your selective memory. For example, if somebody supports a team so much that they refuse to believe any else is better than they will go through each game they play and only remember the positive instances. A well rounded individual sees both sides, if you truly believe you were the better team overall then I think you need to re-watch the match and perhaps try to take a more rounded view.
Really? It was the studs of his leading outstretched leg that hit Gyan's trailing leg (inside of his knee), you really couldn't see that?
Think you must have been toking just a little too much mate! Suarez' touch took the ball wide of the keeper but was still within reaching distance to turn it into an open net. Richardson DID make contact. Hence it WAS a penalty and a red card. As for Carras tackle. There was no intent in it to make contact and therefore not a red card. As for Carroll's goal watch that again. The ball had already gone over the defenders head before Carroll's arm made any contact whatsoever. Still it's all talk. You got a point and deserved it for your 2nd half performance which was better than ours.
Magnificent point., superb second half display. Goal of the season contender, and if Ricco should have went, nobody on earth can tell me Carra didn't earn 2 yellows in the match. Ji came on, was composed and looked instantly good enough, Brown was simply magnificent. Liverpool will improve and i wish you lads the best for the season, i am proud of our boys, if we keep that up, including the mental strength to dig in when a goal down and on the rack, we could have a special season, in our terms. From a Liverpool viewpoint, i thought Carroll looked every inch a Newcastle player, Downing will be an absolute star for you, and Adam showed flashes of brilliance. Suarez, in my opinipn the best player in the league, is also a cheating little ****, but he will tear the league apart this season. All the best to Liverpool, WE ARE SUNDERLAND.
Just back from game and can't be arsed reading 21 pages to get the general jist so apologies if I'm just repeating things Credit to Sunderland thought they battled really hard and were probably the better team second half but what a howler the ref had. That was as blatant a red card as can be imagined for the pen. Did he deny a "clear" goal scoring opportunity? Well when a player is round the keeper surely thats a pretty clear opportunity eh. Carra also pretty lucky for the Gyan tackle (I think it was on Gyan anyway) but really the game changing moment was Dowd not sending Richardson off as the whole game would've been completely different after that and I don't doubt we'd have taken three points the way we were playing first half. Positive from the reds first half though and I thought Downing was a positive even though I'd like him to be played more as an out and out winger going forward as I felt we lacked a bit of width second half. Adam did reasonably well but Hendersons going to need some development to keep a place in the team and Carroll needs a word from Kenny to tell him to get across the first defender more often as he was far too static at times today. Not a great start but not a disaster either just one of those days when the ref had more influence on the game than he really should have and as a team we just weren't quite at the races when the pressure was on.
You're clearly an idiot, living on Liverpools great history and think the likes of Sunderland should be greatful for crumbs off your table. (Muppet)
Well I haven't watched it over and over so I don't know for sure. I watched it once and that was my gut feeling, everybody has a different view point on it depending on their loyalties and the cameras angles they saw it at.
There's no need to be aggressive, I was talking about the overall performance where I felt we deserved a win therefore surely you should feel relieved you got a draw? Because I would if I was a Sunderland fan.
