MOTD used the same phrase for both “slow motion makes it look worse” I think they were right for Bertie who was sliding across the player on a wet pitch This was a direct hit They also thought Sterling should have had a pen when he clearly just kicked the ball away as the keeper arrived and fell over him. This is a fashionable way to get a pen at the moment. If you kick the ball away you have lost control of it and it shouldn’t be a pen. This is just a ploy to win a pen, not a foul
I haven’t seen the incident but sorry I can’t agree with the last paragraph. It shouldn’t matter if you are or aren’t in control of the ball. If you are taken out when the ball has gone it is still a foul. I have previously raised this issue when a player gets fouled after getting a shot away but no foul/penalty is given simply because they have got the shot off.
Personally I disagree. If neither player is in control of the ball then it is just a coming together. Most of the time I think of it as manufactured contact. Sometimes I've even thought of it as the striker tackling the goalkeeper as the keeper would have had possession if not for a lunge by the striker, in which case it's the striker following through and not the keeper.
Maybe the refs subscribe to the same principle and don’t give free kicks when the ball isn’t under control. It would go a long way to explaining why Shane Long doesn’t get the free kicks he should get.
It certainly wouldn't have been a 4 goal deficit. But alas it wasn't meant to be. One good thing, Ings and Long taken off safely at the 70min mark and raring to go for the next biggie. We got this.
I've not done one since L1, but if no-one else wants the job & you are all ready to put up with something rather basic, then I'll do it.
Yeah man, get cracking. We need another thread to put all the bitching when VAR ****s us again. It used to be our friend, now it sleeps with our partners.
Click on Post New Thread, fill in the title etc., then click on Matchday Thread as a prefix. Thanks HR!
