You'd be the first on here moaning about mentality if the opposite had happened. I'd personally be fuming (as I have in the past), if it was noticeable that players were going in half arsed because of the NEXT game. That's bollox imo, the manager has put you in - you give 110% for the here and now, and for the 60k inside the stadium going nuts
Has the 'handbags' incident with Nunez been discussed that ended in what looked, to me, like a clear penalty?
Yeah, but he clearly did shove him in the face. Nunez's 3rd or 4th game for us saw him sent off for 'headbutting' Anderson of Crystal Palace when in reality he just pushed his face against him. He's more sinned against than sinned, IMO.
I thought it was 50/50 until the defender clearly forearmed him in the neck/face? TNT are rubbish at replays. I will take another look just to check my initial take on it. Was it in the first half?
Edit: found it. Argy bargy like I thought then Asencio pushes him off with a hand around the throat, a bit dramatic from Nunez and now I'm not sure it was a clear penalty but still think it could have gone either way.
What nobody seems to have mentioned so far is that right at the start of the incident Asencio grabs Nunez's collar and yanks it 'til it stretches to his shoulder, that sparked the whole grappling match imo. I think Virgil pointed it out to the ref during the aftermath but ref still saw fit to book both. I do think Nunez exaggerated the fall though.
Tbf to Nunez he probably had to exaggerate it to force it into even becoming a talking point. The ref probably would've ignored it completely otherwise.
You're right, the shirt pull did start the whole thing. I was also wondering whether, even though it turned into a push, pull, push, pull situation, does that discount the fact that the last move in the altercation was a foul and it was in the penalty area?
My thoughts entirely - despite the handbags, the grab of the shirt collar becomes a shove to the throat and face with a clenched fist. Of course, Darwin exaggerated, but as I said, his introduction to the EPL was Anderson doing just that and getting him sent off. I've deffo seen players get booked for that, and some sent off. Not too many pens though, in fairness. But still perplexed as to why Darwin got booked as well.
I always wonder whether the VAR is in their ear with a running commentary on these types of incidents and telling the referee that it was 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. We've had that referee a few times and he's always a mixture of really good and perplexing in equal measure.

Hope everyone's alright. Happened in Warwickshire, I wonder why they weren't flying out from Liverpool.
