Bob Paisley was also the tactical brains behind Shankly. Whereas Klopp had Pep Lindjers, Slot seems to have a far better tactical brain than Klopp
Linders was causing us more issues than solving them imo. He's having a poor time and has salzburg in 7th so he's the moyes of Austria now. Thank God we didn't appoint him. Anyway, slot has had a great start but people will start figuring it out so he needs to push on and make good buys to build on it. People always figure ways to negate approaches, that's football. Lfc are having a good run of form out of diaz (has been a year now including for Colombia ever since his pops got released), slot has got a great bit of form out of gakpo who has continued his Dutch from from the summer. Salah is playing better than last year. Slot suits all 3 it seems. He has gotten the very best out of gravenberch which is great but he as also used maccallister properly and uses szoboszlai's work rate to his advantage even if he'd want more end product I'm sure. The shape is better and the balance is appropriate to a team who wants to win things however I do feel the pass it to death approach will fall flat on its face as some point and he has to step it up and let them loose to win the games then do it. 1 goal and sit off won't cut it.
After an intense week where we put everything into playing real itneas nice to be able tonsit back and stroll about against such weak opposition i suppose. Seriously, it was a real help with Newcastle and Everton coming up.
We struggled 'intensely' against Southampton. Take nothing for granted and every game on its merits. Both games will be difficult. If we're going to win the league we need to face each league game as a cup final until we are mathematically over the hill. We can afford to rest in the CL now (and possibly in the LC qf- it's not that important).
Are you just looking for reactions here ? Winning virtually every game and breaking records but change it anyway?
One of the most impressive things Slot has done is with both Gravenberch and Gapko. I wasn’t so sure on Gapko season, I’ll be honest and Gravenberch was mainly just a substitute. The transformation in Gravenberch has been incredible and Gapko has really solidified himself as a first team choice.
Even if/when they are digging us out, i think these paddy power social media clips/posts are brilliant
In 2019/2020 when we won the league. This time, we won 12 games and drawn one 8 points clear of Leicester city in second place and 9 points clear of Manchester City in third place
Leicester never counted. Once we beat them 4-0 the league was over. But seriously on the stats thread you can see the straight line progress of thst year. 22-1-0 We are 11-1-1 the next 10 games can decide the title race for City, you'd not put it past arsenal to win all 10 as well.
Beaten Newcastle and Newcastle can go a long way. If we are still 9 points clear of chasing pack by Christmas we will need some catching.
Yes, it's not over yet, but we'll probably know if Liverpool wins all their games by New Year. But we should now have Top Four knocked off (can't see both City AND Brighton winning every single game from now until the end of the season, even though we will drop more than 11 points). That is some achievement.
It's an age old adage that it's only worth looking at the table after Christmas, and we've got 7 PL games (plus one CL and one LC) in December, so more than half the 13 we've played so far, so we'll need to see how we cope and if the injuries pile up. We play Man U on 5 January before a nine day break. We'll be in the second half of the season then as well, so we'll have a much clearer picture.
At the top end this gap is nothing imho because when you drop points invariably one of the other teams capitalises Waaaaaaay too soon for title talk You could easily drop 9 in 3 out of last 6 games Hope slot is keeping them grounded Good position So far so good
For me the problem is going to be injuries and rotation. At the moment it's approaching a situation where there isn't much wiggle room for rotation - the recent benches are evidence of that - and that will take it's toll. Therefore I think we will see a fair bit of game management wherever we can get away with it.
First thing is thst we are almost after securing our premier league survival. 34 is pretty close to it these days. We can secure it by the end of the weekend. We are not quite half way to 70 for cl. So we have to win 13 more games out of 25 games for that. I'm not willing to talk titles until we are as close to 70 as we are to 40 now. It can then be projected. it's not rocket anyway to project 56 more points from 25 games is it?
It is what it is. Robbo will crack first. Tsimikas is marked down for the 14th so robbo has to survive until then. Chiesa might give us a bench option shortly. Maybe. Alisson will be back but i was fine with kelleher and jaros so this is just gravy. Jota will also be close, I think during this week So overall big picture: 6 forwards again All midfielders fit. Elliott back in and Jones has been the main sub for macca and szobo so Elliott now allows 2 rotations v girona. We have 3 defenders injured. 2 reserves and one key man. All keeper fit most likely Really what we should be looking to is how to cover trent off and quansah did alright. You really just don't want any more knocks now as it'll be tough to find any cover.
Brilliant game. Two classy performances in one week, wow. That pass from Salah for the first goal, wow.
