Sandro is outstanding in the holding role, now that he's adjusted to life in England and the Premier League. He picked up an injury with Brazil though, unfortunately and he may miss the start of the season. Palacios may have to be replaced as his back-up, as his form has been understandably poor since the tragic death of his brother. Our players don't leave to play at the top level, by the way. They leave because we don't pay top wages. Both yourselves and Man City are very good evidence for that.
The Metro are some of the worst rumor merchants around so i give that no credence. Levy on Berbatov: http://edition.cnn.com/2007/SPORT/football/12/30/spurs.berbatov/index.html Yet you still invested the Berbatov money in the way you did which is why i think Modric will go the same way. That season you had just finished 5th two seasons in a row so there's other similarities, don't see why your policy would be any different this year.
Okay perhaps "good DM" was the wrong phrase, a "better DM" would be helpful. If you have a good DM and a good Passmaster, then you should be a shoe-in for the top 4 anyway, but as you aren't there is obviously room for improvement there. As I say, a good striker could do wonders for you, I don't understand why Harry hasn't sold someone to buy a good striker, they're in plentiful supply at the moment.
Or just playing a Huddlestone + Sandro partnership, which IMO could work well, although the lack of goals would be a concern. Would be great in European games though. Name them?
You're being pedantic. He didn't say they we'ren't selling Jan, he said they wouldn't buy in January, and more importantly said: "When we have players on long contracts we have no need to entertain offers" Which was obviously not true with regards Berbatov. Also at the time he played a similar type of 'hardball' over Berbatov and yes got a good sale price but still ended up selling and still re-invested the funds the way he did. The similarities in previous situations, transfers and your overall club policy suggest you won't put all of Modric's money back into a replacement, not sure how you can argue with that.
I'd agree that Huddlestone and Sandro would work well, especially if it meant that our wingers and van der Vaart played higher up the pitch. The main problem and the real reason that we missed out on the top 4 last season, is that none of our strikers plays well in the lone role. That desperately needs sorting, but I don't know why Ze Liverbird believes that there are tons available, to be honest.
RE: Skrtels Nips Levy was discussing the policy in January, but he did intend to keep Berbatov during the summer. He went on strike after a certain club had a word with him. I can argue with your assessment of our transfer policy merely by stating that we're not in the same position that we were. We don't need wholesale changes and we can fund any that are needed through the sale of unneeded squad players.
Yeah, your profligacy infront of goal was definitely the number one reason for missing out on Europe, it is one thing you have to sort in this transfer window, but it seems you are going to leave it again, when it should've been sorted as far back as January when you were on a massive high after beating Inter to top spot in the group and after coming back from 2 down at the Emirates. And no, I can't name 1 striker that can guarantee you 15-20 goals a season and isn't at a champions league club. There's only one exception to that rule, and he won't be coming to Spurs anytime soon, I wouldn't imagine.
The other major reason that we missed out, in my opinion, is Redknapp's misuse of the squad. We didn't rotate at the right times and we ran some players into the ground, when others barely played.
Lavezzi, Pato, Gomez, Hulk, Falcao, Neymar, Di Natale, Cavani, Eto'o, Hamsik, Vucinic, Negredo, Giuseppe Rossi, Llorente, Moussa Sow, Gameiro, López, Chu-Young, Toivonen, Van Wolfsvinkel. More than that too, some of them may be out of Spurs' league and some of them have already been sold but there's plenty to choose from. Some of them may be a bit old, but if they do the job then who cares?
Most of those are either unrealistic or inappropriate for the role that we need to fill and some are just totally unproven. Just naming a load of strikers, some of whom you actually admit aren't available, is pointless. If we can't buy them, then how can you claim that we should have signed one of them?
Raaaul asked me to name them, . I also said "may" be out of your league, but you don't know unless you inquire. Also, if you're going to be picky and say you want one that is proven etc.. then no wonder you don't have any good forwards.
Its probably nonsense,I read somewhere else we're chasing James McCarthy from Wiga,we need another central midfielder like a hole in the head,we need a centre back and a left back and possibly a striker, but that could be left til January. We're at the stage where we need to get rid of more players than we sign.
Discounting the strikers playing for champions league clubs (Eto'o, Lavezzi, Pato, Falcao, Hulk, Di Natale, Cavani, Hamsik, Rossi, Moussa Sow, Lopez, Gomez) and ones who've moved recently (Van Wolfswinkel and Gameiro) you're left with a player who don't want to leave his club (Llorente), unproven players (Toivonen and Chu Young) or simply ones who don't play as lone strikers (Vucinic and Neymar) I don't believe any of them are attainable or suitable for Spurs If I'm honest.
When you need a striker, you need a striker. Also Eto'o has made it clear he wants to leave for the Premier league; Sow was being linked with newcastle not long ago, Rossi has been linked with Spurs for a while as far as I've seen, Toivonen isn't proven but neither was Torres or Suarez. Chu Young is proven in Ligue 1, what else does he have to do?
Wow, the Arsenal fans are right, you spurs fans are incredibly hostile. Incapable of discussion are you? Also, "proven" players are a safe option, but they're expensive and from the looks of it - your money has all dried up.
I'm perfectly capable of civilised discussion, but you're the second moderator from the Liverpool board that I've bumped into that isn't. You may wish to look at your own posts first, frankly.
Eto'o is supposed to be on around £100k pw more than we pay anyother player at our club so I don't think he was talking about Tottenham when he said he wanted to come and play in the Premiership. The options are definitely out there but if we can't get the value for money then it's unlikely to happen.
