Was thinking this during the game, would like to see him linking up with Suarez more in a rafa style 4-2-3-1 style forrmation.

    Perhaps........

    ...........................................Lucas.....................Wee Jay...........................
    .......................................................Gerrard........................................
    ............Kuyt........................................................................Bellamy
    .........................................................Suarez......................................

Much less defensive duties allowing him to bomb on.

If we don't buy anyone in the summer, that would be my best lineup for next season. Depends on how we strengthen in the window though

This set up is only god when 1 of the two behind Gerrard have great vision and passing abillity (Alonso).

    Neither Lucas nor Spearing do.

We would end up being very deep and very counter attacking.

We're definaly a good few players short atm.

Got to disagree with that, Downing is better than Bellamy (just hasn't proved it much this season) and if we play Lucas, Jay spearing Should not be in the team. TOO defensive- Too similar to when both Mascherano and Lucas played. 4-4-2 will be our formation next season and is the best for our squad atm. Need 1 more quality striker and possible a CM (Aquilani would be good IF he returns from his loan)

Carroll shouldn't be dropped, he's improved a lot and we can't just drop him to the bench every time he has an off game. The lad needs to be able to stamp his place in the team.

He works hard in games so that isn't his problem, that's the main reason Henderson hardly gets dropped.

Downing better than Bellamy. Is that a typo?

alex, potential or form at his former club means nothing,Downing cant compare to Bellers this season even though Downing has had more chances to impress.

Thanks Hash. Trouble is that doesn't factor in howler's and shakey performances which were a factor last year.

Fair enough, but I always gave the guy credit and didn't see the ''oh no skrtel's playing'' brigade's point of view after his first few months (jan-may)

I think what our squad needs in the summer is more option, more pace, more creativity and more depth in attack, plus one more in centre midfield. A defender, who can play left back, to cover Enrique would be good to.

    On Skrtel:

He is incredible this year, I can't believe how composed he is on the ball as well and sometimes deciding to take it forward (like Agger). A year ago I would have referred to Skrtel as clumsy and not only for his needless fouling that he seems to have completely cut out as well.

Like watching a new player, I think his name is going on the back of my shirt next year <ok>

Yea, I don't see the sense in dropping Henderson, Downing and, to a greater extent, Carroll in any of our remaining league games. We've had a poor season in the league but we can take something from the remaining games if we develop the Carroll/Suarez partnership and give Henderson and Downing as much game time as possible. On the other hand we won't gain much or learn much from playing the likes of Kuyt or Maxi in the league games.

We might end up signing a forward in the summer and moving Suarez out wide but there's been enough promise in the Carroll/Suarez partnership to give it a go for 10 matches.

Equally, I don't think we learn much from playing Henderson out on the right where he just goes missing or drifts inside. If hendo plays, he needs to be in the middle. He's not going to take Gerrard's place and Gerrard won't play as well without Spearing covering for him.

I think i'm going to disagree with myself too on my Downing comment, Bellamy has been much better this season(i was probably just too excited that downing had actually scored) However i don't think Bellamy is much better overall and next season will not be able to start many games with his ****ty knees, so downing will be the consistent starter. Downing has more potential, mainly because it is all (unfortunately) downhill for Bellamy now

ever just feel the need to just say something just to go against the love fest?

anway finally al lthe gerrard stuff is moot, the point ought to be "needs to regain stamina and ability to play for 90mins consistently before he can be releid on as a lynchpin of the side again"
