I'm off to Caswell Bay this weekend, don't know what to wear. Any suggestions? Was thinking a nice red footy top that I own.
So everyone should support the team of the town they currently live in? yea cus that's not being plastic is it
I think all the people from the Mumbles that support Swansea are plastics. http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/mumblesrangers/
I grew up in Swansea and I've always supported the the Swans, even though they were in the old 4th division when I first went to the Vetch. Most of the kids in my school supported one of the top teams of the time (some of them are 2 divisions below the Swans now) for the usual reasons, i.e. they wanted to appear successful by association. Some of them will be watching the Swans now, maybe thinking what they have missed - the unique feeling of seeing your hometown team, that you have always supported, achieving a success that you never thought possible. Happy Days!
If there is no connection or affiliation to the clubs like Liverpool or Man Utd, then you are nothing but a plastic fan, big clubs hijack fans from other cities its disgusting imo! Tell me Liverpool fans, if you saw people wearing Man Utd tops in Liverpool and they are from Liverpool how would you feel?
Jäger, where the bloody hell have you been ? Long time no see ! Someone wearing a Man Utd shirt around Liverpool would either be very brave or very stupid.
Cheers My family have been Liverpool supporters for generations now (since before we were good)... Can't help the Irish sea separating us! In Northern Ireland, by the way, and indeed in Ireland, local football is at such a poor standard (and in NI, sectarian and bitter) that 99% of people support a Premier League/English club, and the diehard Protestants/Catholics will follow either Rangers or Celtic. For instance, I'm a Liverpool supporter. Most of my friends support either Liverpool or United. I know two Everton supporters (one of them only got into football in 2007 or so, and simply picked a team at random, but now is a huge fan, unquestionably so), a few Arsenal/Chelsea supporters and two Spurs fans. Two poor lads I know support Leeds. I think being a fan is a lot to do with loyalty, knowledge of the team you support, following the games, sticking by them in hard times and so on. Clue might be in the name, a wonderful liquid.
In theory if you lot continue to play the football and stay in the Premier League then over time there will be less and less of your so called plastics. There will be a new Generation of Swansea fans. So I get your point but Liverpool have their fanbase through being successful the club haven't hijacked anyone. I'm from the Aberdare area but didn't have a footballing family so just grew into the game through playing football, I have supported Liverpool for as long as I can remember after watching them and falling in love with the football. It would be plastic of me to now turn my back on them and support Cardiff or Swansea.
We have loads of students in Liverpool and some of them walk around town with manc tops on, cant honestly say i know any locals that support them but there probably are a few, and personally thats up to them. The difference between there and here is anyone wearing a manc top in Liverpool is taking a chance on getting a hiding due to the lunatic fringe and the dislike between the clubs/cities. Out of curiosity Jager your attendances have grown since your days in the lower leagues, are the new found faithful at the Liberty glory hunters?, if not where were they before you got to the prem?
We need plastics to buy merchandise and stuff to help fund the financial demands of the premier league! Sad but true!
I wear my shirt with pride where I live. I will be wearing my Swans shirt this Sunday when I make a triumphant return to Wembley to watch Team GB. Even spotted a lady runner in the new away kit, down my way.
If by purchasing merchandise, tickets etc helps fund the club then that in itself is support both financial and emotional nothing plastic about that!! There may be different levels of support but plastic dont think so. I for one am grateful to all new fans that have come to know, like and support their hometown club, more fans=more revenue=more investment which in turn hopefuly will allow us to but better players and become more successful. For those locals that like their Liverpool, Man u Chelsea tops etc well I feel sad for them as every other Saturday they are missing out on watching quality live football on their doorstep.
Is it compulsory that when you "improve" yourself by going to a "big" club you have to wear the shirt. please log in to view this image I only remember him ever wearing a suit & tie here. He`s gone a bit sloppy since he left.
