if you wanna move up the league you need better players to fight for places. and how you can say Defoe is a ****ty version of Cisse
What are you on the wind up for Wrighty? It's a straight comparison Cisse v Defoe, and I agree with our friend from Liverpool, Cisse every time. Defoe is a decent striker, but has lived half his career on the subs bench, tends to score his goals against tiring teams. I wouldn't say no if he came to us, but think we could do better with a younger goalscorer to learn a bit from Cisse and Sparky. and has been pointed out higher up the thread, this is just crap journalism, rehash from the last window,Liverpool aren't going to spend millions on anybody without a manager in place.
We cant afford for pay players over 50k to sit on the bench. So youd be quite happy for everyone to pay an extra £200 on STs just so we can have Defoe on the bench over Campbell? We need to upgrade every other area before we buy expensive forwards no better than what we have already.
Liverpool are a strong mid-table side whereas we've yet to establish ourselves there. We're one or two years behind them just yet.
The funny thing Swords is that you are not too far off the mark. Liverpool are nowhere near the club/squad/team that they used to be. Just look at how many games they lost last year to teams in the bottom including at Anfield. And that was with Daglish in charge. 3-4 good signings this year and we will not be too far behind them. Even Everton finished higher than them this year. They are a club living on past dreams and their two best players Carragher/Gerrard only have 1-2 more years left at best.
Carragher isn't even in our starting XI anymore, so I'm not sure where you're getting this stuff about him being one of our two best players. What QPR fans saw at Loftus road of us pretty much summed up our season. Scintillating football at the start but with little end product. When we finally went 2-0 ahead we made ridiculous errors and conceded 3 stupid goals. We really are not as bad a team as people are making out and we certainly aren't as far off the top 4 as people think. We missed Lucas as much as QPR missed Faurlin this season. People may not understand the fact that the loss of a midfielder can affect the team as much, but it does, and QPR fans should appreciate that as they've seen first hand the damage losing Faurlin did to the team. The man who sets the tempo, the man who makes everyone around him comfortable on the ball and the man who makes the team tick going missing always weakens the team as Man Utd found out after releasing Scholes...
That's a very good post Lucaas. Its true you can't overestimate the loss of an influential midfielder. I think people just get a bit peeved with Liverpool fans thinking they're still one of the BIG Clubs even after 22 years of not winning the title.
I understand where you're coming from with that, as winning the league is the bread and butter for top clubs BUT even still in this league title drought we've won more than most clubs have in the same period. 3 FA cups, 4 league cups, 1 champions league and 1 uefa cup is not too bad for a supposed mid table club!
Its fantastic in fact. A brilliant return in those 22 years. But there's no supposed about it I'm afraid. Sunderland, Newcastle, Spurs and Liverpool are the best of the rest and if the 'Pool can top that group then it can be considered a great league season IMO.
