Yes you're right but when it comes to football, local culture takes over.

Scousers will shorten any name, it's almost compulsory so when we're talking, Nottingham becomes Notts whether County or Forest. Nottm. may be the correct way of shortening Nottingham and when you see it written down you know what it means but it doesn't make sense when you try to say Nottm. just like trying to say Middx. for Middlesex.

There's a lovely nostalgia for me saying Notts Forest as well. Out of respect for you, I will refer to them just as Forest on here. :)

    Nottingham shortens to Nottm

    Nottinghamshire shortens to Notts

It isn't Nottinghamshire Forest, it's Nottingham Forest.

If your shortening it, why not just 'Forest'...? Like everywhere else does?

Edit; obviously, I didn't finish reading your post <laugh>

I actually thought you'd done it intentionally. Expecting from most on here year next season <laugh>

True, but it's the midlands, so not likely many people care. <ok>

I know the reasoning behind the abbreviations but reason isn't a strong point when it comes to things like this. Anyone of my era will have always said Notts Forest. I don't know anyone of my age group who doesn't. There's actually a BBC drama on at the moment called Sherwood and they refer to Notts Forest much to the annoyance of people from Nottinghamshire.

Edit: just been reading that the writer of Sherwood is from Nottinghamshire and took a load of flak on social media. He explained that he had his character say Notts Forest because he's not from the area so would have referred to the team as other fans not from Nottingham would have done.

I'm aware of bother the drama / flack and that it's more of a Nottingham/Nottinghamshire thing. Like most things, it's only annoys you if it means something to you.

I live in Nottinghamshire (Notts), I don't live in Nottingham (Nottm).

    The irony of la liga.

Real are complaining about.psg and city being oil dopers.

Meanwhile... somehow.. utterly inexplicably....barca are signing kounde gazumping Chelsea.and also lewandowski but apparently have 500mil to find somewhere somehow.

    The antics are unbelievable

I think we'll go back to our usual level in the domestic cups - play a second string and just see how they get on up until the latter stages if they get there. It came together last season but I don't see it happening again.
I'm still going for the quadruple though because...well, just because.

Yeah. I'm just saying that this (last) season it fell into place but I doubt that it will again, which is why I don't really expect us to do well in those cups.

We beat norwich last season. I have no idea how good fulham think they will be but we can now simply delay the williams move for example. we can play that game.

the cup draws we got were quite handy really.

    FA CUP
    Liverpool 4–1 Shrewsbury Town
    Liverpool 3–1 Cardiff City
    Liverpool 2–1 Norwich City
    Nottingham Forest 0–1 Liverpool
    Semi-finals Manchester City 2–3 Liverpool
    Final Chelsea 0–0 (a.e.t.)(5–6 p) Liverpool

we got to the sf without a decent opponent and played all early rounds at home. this make rotating and playing kids hugely easier.

    League cup
    Norwich City 0–3 Liverpool
    Preston North End 0–2 Liverpool
    Liverpool 3–3(5–4 p) Leicester City
    Liverpool 0–0 Arsenal
    Arsenal 0–2 Liverpool
    Final Chelsea 0–0 (a.e.t.) (10–11 p) Liverpool

Again we played nobody who was actually good wil the SF. Leicester should have whalloped us at anfield and fell apart once we put a sub or two on at HT. we still barely scraped the equaliser.

IMO yes we got a slice of luck or two along the way but the DRAW is the primary factor in getting us to the position to play a good side in the latter rounds.

we were made fight for the cups by chelsea but in many ways it was hugely easier for us than prior years where we got some terrible away draws.

HOWEVER it does help when your reserves include gomez, tsimikas, konate, kelleher, jones, minime, origi and firmino. its not u18s!

Weird season with the world Cup break though. I'm sure Klopp will put even more focus on league and champions league.

I think personally that klopp's made us a promise after the CL final. after the fans were treated so poorly.

Klopp's said we will be back.
