Looking forward to diaz this year. No doubt he was a breathe of fresh air when he joined. Work rate, skills, just an infections type of player that gets you out of your seat. His numbers weren’t brilliant (4 goals, 3 assists in 13 prem matches). Not awful by any means, but our wide players need to be getting 12-15 in the league really, as mane and Salah have set that benchmark. Obviously joining in Jan made it tricker and if he can up that goal scoring, which I’m sure he’ll do now he’s had 6 months and a pre season to bed in, then will be very good.
thats 7 goal contributions in 13 games! thats not bad at all! Just do a quick ratio of 13 games to 38 games and thats 12 goals and 9 assists for Diaz base don last years start. (just in league). Give mane gave us 15 goals in league and 5 assists I'd also be not to displeased with Diaz just doing the same. that said I expect him to have a very big season Last year: Jota: 21 goals 8 assists overall 15/6 in prem Firmino 11 goal 5 assists overall, 5/4 in prem Mane: 23 goals 5 assists overall 16/4 in prem Salah 31 goals 16 assist overall 23/14 in prem So really a full season from diaz in the prem wouldn't be too bad at all.
I love Mané to bits and would have liked him to stay. He was a massive part of our success. I can't honestly say though that I felt the same excitement watching him play as I did / do with Salah and all signs point to Diaz and Nunez being two more really exciting players. We've had a taste of it already with Diaz. In comparison - does anyone get excited watching Kane play? It isn't just about the goals but how those goals are scored.
same debate as Ronaldo v messi. Watching ronaldo score 40 all the same sort of goals, with perfect technique but zero spark of genius is all well and good but its the spark of creativity and unexpected that makes games.
That's not a bad analogy. I can't say how similar it is because I've watched far more of Mané and Salah than I have of the other two whose reputations precede them.
its this simple. salah will once in a blue moon beat 3 players and score where as mane will work like a dog running about but hasn't the same impact in general. I can't really think of a time mane beat 3 players and scored. I can recall a lot of good goals, headers, break aways and all of that and a lot of dribbling or such out wide or deep.
I agree with all of that. Two supreme athletes, one gets a song, one doesn't, although you never know what the criteria is with the Kop, Balotelli had a song from day one
Back to preseason, I only just found out that both of our young goalkeepers in the Palace game are 18. I was impressed with both albeit only small debuts.
yeah, we are working a system now to be a "centre" of excellence or keepers. Pitaluga (19) was loaned out already to macclesfield Vitezslav Jaros (21) loaned to Stockport just prior to trip. Jakub Ojrzynski(19) was loaned earlier in window, back to poland for him with Radomiak Radom Davies is going to be 19 shortly and played in the fa youth cup side and is a useful HG option to fill up our squad in CL. Mrozek is also soon to be 19 and we poached him also from poland. will be with u21s this year. this is why Tafferel was brought in as well. the ideal is that with this amount out on loan or playing for us we can make a very tidy profit. However the Brexit rules make that tough now.
There's definitely some quality scouting and coaching going on. Oddly enough I felt more relaxed with Davies in goal than I did Adrian. I trust Kelleher over him too. I don't however, like the abuse Adrian has been getting from some online.
adrian is just a goal line keeper with not as much ability on the gorund as others. he is a top shot stopper. We play a high line so adrian is kept solely cos he works will with others imo.
Without doubt, I'll miss watching Mane. But, with time, we'll move on. I'm looking forward to watching Diaz now he's settled in and can't wait to see what Nunez brings too (although I have a bad feeling about him)
Can't speak for Mané but I'm sure he's been his excellent self. Doesn't help that Nunez looks a bit like Andy Carroll.
Who doesn't it help? The wums? the social media panickers? This lad is class. We've all seen him play us. Surely that should be enough for you but just add in Jurgen klopp doesn't go donkeys. It'll be fine
If you like football then you encounter banter on some level - unless you only mix with Liverpool fans (I don't). The comparison has already started which I can only assume is based on his looks and playing position. I don't care what the twitterati say because I don't see it.
Nunez will shut them up pretty quick. The thing is, if you want to play stature Torres and nunez virtually identical height (and speed) Haaland and Carroll. Guess what virtually identical height. It's a lazy trope
