Liverpool have today contacted Barcelona in an attempt to lure Lionel Messi to Anfield in a swap deal which will see Stewart Downing go the other way. Barcelona are believed to be struggling to meet personal terms and initially rebuffed the offer although the deal is thought to have since been complete.
