Can't you just build a cheaper stadium, didn't St mary's only cost 32 million

Yes for a capacity of only 32,589 and Wembley cost £757 million for 90,000. We want a stadium to be 60K (and more eventually). The cost of a new stadium would be roughly the same as the expansion, new stadia vs renovation was already weight up by the owners.

Its also home, the heart of the club, part of the identity.

The cost is not just for the seats but also to update other parts of the ground and surrounding area, some of which will increase profits (aside from match day profits)

Would you want Man U to move from Old Trafford?

They could call the new stadium Not-as-old Trafford.

We only had an outside bog, and it was good exercise to go to the park.
In those days, your "five a day" referred to seeing blades of grass.

  6. If that's true then why haven't we opted for a purpose built new stadium? I was on the understanding that we're going down the extension route because it was a much cheaper option that still hit the targets the owners are aiming for

FSG wanted similar to what happened at Fenway Park, keep the historical location and modernise rather than move and totally build a new stadium.

  8. Yeah, realise that. Was just commenting on Rogers claimed that a rebuild and extension would cost about the same

The architect hired by the cowboys quoted £300m, the estimated cost of a refurb and modernisation by FSG is way below that price.

Well how much would a new build cost. A few of new British stadia examples, St Marys around half the capacity we want at £32m. Wembley with 20-30k more than planned at £750m. Emirates, 60k, £470 million offset with the sale of Highbury flats. Cardiff City Stadium, £48 million, 33,316 capacity.

Prices vary, but I would guess ours would be closer to Arsenals again offset with the sale of the old ground. So a new Stadium would come out at a similar price, probably more, to the renovation with the sale of Anfield at the end.
