Slot made one interesting comment when talking about his makeshift formation

He commented both Elliott and szoboszlai are 10s.

Just an interesting little comment there thst hints at his thinking perhaps.

He also said he didn't have a striker because Nunez wasn't available - which strongly suggests that that's how he sees him.
There had been talk of Salah playing down the middle, but he stuck to his usual role last night.
Or at least there was someone wearing his shirt - head didn't look right though.

It's just little tidbits to see if they develop layer.

I've only seen the highlights. Not sure when the full game is available on LFCTV. I can see Salah making lots of those assists this season. He's been giving himself a new role for a while in developing his assisting as his pace is dropping. Couldn't tell shape or much else from the highlights so be interesting to see if there's a noticable difference.

Arsenal next up who best utd 2-1

Utd went in hard trying to bully arsenal and had Holland and Yoro go off injured.

We play arsenal next then have to risk utd kicking our players before this tour is over.

Really don’t understand playing rivals during pre season.

I get the prem is huge and draws the crowds, but one gives them an early insight into any tactical issues that you can exploit / they may exploit against you and always risk things going overboard and a bad tackle leading to injury.

Personal opinion... that's a mistake, same one Klopp would make; I think he's better when he stars wide and moves inward... but I will wait to see how he does for Slot there.

It depends on the type of ball played to him

Cross it and get his head in play and it's radically different to the game klopp was asking of him.

Not sure if anyone’s seen all the clips of Adrian before and after game. Just have to see the reaction from a few of the lfc players to show that he really was a very popular player to have around as a 3rd choice.

Thata the thing. It’s really hard to judge anyone based on last season with a new manager & system. As you say get Nunez into the middle and feed him and he might knock a few in. Get gakpo wide and let him play like he did for Holland and might be first choice left winger scoring 15 prem goals.

Jones summed it up nicely where said under klopp was much more about getting direct up and down and wide players running forward. That suited Nunez a lot more.

However under Slot it seems (still early days) that we’ll be focussing play through the middle keeping the ball and as such out wide players may be coming in to get involved a lot more and he wants the number 9 to stay right up on the shoulder and be an outlet - now that would suit Nunez for sure.

Szoboszlai tradionally has been a 10, or at least a forward. I had reservations about Klopp deploying him as a midfielder and I feel it will be interesting to see how he figures under Slot.

Think the hope was he’d be a box to box midfielder as he has a decent engine on him. But does seem we stifled his attacking ability a bit and his defensive work isn’t top notch.

Does mean where does Mac fit into this team. Guessing as one of the 2 6’s but then you lose some of his ability up the pitch if asking him to go deeper. If you push mac up into a box midfiekd with TAA coming inside alongside a DM possibly.

Deeper only means ability to be on ball more imo

Look at nyoni v betis. He's not.a 6 at all jt he's stood there and nobody wanted to give endo the ball at all. They just kept giving it to the child as he could pass.

I don't really buy this macca needs to be higher up stuff. What he needs to be is on the ball making play.

Yeah he needs to be on ball more - I guess issue is if you have mac and say jones as those two 6s then you’re susceptible to teams going through the middle as don’t have players making tackles.

    Yeah.

Macallister is excellent at block tackles and being intelligent with his tackling but lacks the pace to shuffle about closing space and such.

If we really play a 10 or more of an attacking midfielder then we need to understand this slot system behind that

The arsenal game will be interesting (will Jota play)

    Kelleher
Bradley quansah van den Berg tsimikas

(No alisson, no trent, no vvd, no Robertson so far. Konate should be closer)

Endo and who? (No macca, no jones)
Salah sloboszlai carvalho? (No Diaz, no gakpo)
    Jota (no nunez)

    Let's see.

When we have everyone back then it is likely to all fall behind again as those actual key players have to learn the system

It's a bit strange - a preseason with 10 first team players still not back. Great to see the youngsters and loanees but how beneficial it is to us as a team going into a new season, I don't know.

Most top teams all in the same boat in theory. What might do is throw a few surprises up early doors where the mid/lower teams have had more rest over summer and more time back in pre season.

I'm not concerned about other teams. :bandit: We need to be at our best from the first whistle.

Maybe Salah and Szoboszlai will combine to crush the opposition. Back to the days of you score 1, we'll score 2.
