Nunez off after 60mins. If he starts the first game I'll be shocked.

Given diaz played more than him at the copa by one game and nunez supposedly had a great run there he looks absolutely awful today.

It looks like its going nowhere that was my point.

As I said gets the crowd impatient if we don't see the plan. It's demanding that press up from the opponent, if they do then we go.

We are looking to draw 4 or 5 opponents with short short passing and having the full backs infield by 10 yards to make a 4

This means space to then go with a longe ball or a pass between the lines.

Yeah and I guess that’s why the 4231 works better as the double pivot can be back being an option if we are playing it short and midfield need to push up on them if they want to press and leaves 4 up top with 2 wide and 2 central for the ball into space to allow things to open up.

I guess it’s how we work things against teams that sit back. Was a lot of possession under klopp against those teams and many times struggled to break them down as couldn’t get them on the counter press or break on them so was trying to break down a lot block.

Hopefully with slots more focus on playing through the midfield should have a bit more creativity especislly with wide players and fb’s staying wide to stretch teams a bit more

I think we will push very high up and pin them in and crank up the pressure but I'd hope the difference will be actual bodies in thw box for the crosses this system demands.

Well I'll be honest that game shows why slot is in the market for a ball playing midfielder.

Jones was doing loads of flash stuff but he wasn't protecting the ball when it counted and wasn't in the position needed.

Diaz looked good, we will.needed him at the start.

Salah looks really fit and raring to go.

Thst first game starting 11 will surely start v Ipswich

    True <laugh>

But seriously the lack of care from jones today was hilarious. All fine being advanced and doing tricks but he was anywhere but in control of thst game.

Endo was absolutely destroyed at times.

Yes and the new set up didn't look like what i saw from him.

I saw some extremly poor careless mistskes, a lot of getting advanced of the play and that's not a quick short passing controlling game in the middle.of the park.

Endo was put of his depth as well.

I certainly can see why slot wants to buy.

I can however say that Las palmas were fitter and better than seville, or at least earned to play a higher tempo game

Gravenberch and macallister were right in position today right.smack where you'd expect them to be with vvd and quansah.

Maybe they had.more time.on the ball.or maybe they were.more comfortable doing the role bit I'd be shocked of that's not the partnership we start with until/if we make the purchase

I think Salah has looked pretty good, tbh. Especially in the first half of the games.
He's continued his evolution into a team player now that he's lost a bit of pace. Good vision and passing ability.

So we signed Xabi as manager afterall, he's just wearing a Slot mask which he will pull off in dramatic fashion when we lift the Champions League in May.

The transition to a possession focused midfield is going to take some getting used to. Even in the pre season games we won comfortably, we've been caught in possession close to goal in the early stages - I accept that's the trade off for the traps that Slot wants to set.

But I'm not surprised by the players we're being linked with in the transfer market.

Salah looking rejuvenated and carrying on from where he left off with his killer passes. Luca Stephenson looks another great prospect, straight in on the Seville player, stopping his show boating and always looking to go forward. It's looking like we're okay on the right hand side, still not too sure about the left. Scanlon is very promising and Nyoni, what can you say. Another year, filling out his young body and I can see him getting lots of minutes in cups and Europe.

The second game was a bit sleep inducing with Kelleher and Elliott really only two who stood out. The Spanish lads a bit too feisty for a friendly.

Stephenson is just a lad who's been toughened up with a loan but isn't near the level so likely to be sold as well.

Nyoni isn't a left sided player but a centre midfielder making passes.

Scanlon is just OK a decent signing as a prospect to see what comes. Very raw still.

Nallo did alright for a.lad only barely 17. Wasn't really too troubled making clearances and marked up alight.

I agree Elliott stood out. He had to go.hunting thr ball and making all the play as endo and Jones failed to do the job in front of the back 3 (cbs and gk)

The formation is supposed to be

    ........ rcb......gk......lcb.....
    ....rb.......cm.....cm......lb
    Rw...............10................lw
    .....................9

Full backs work from in to put as ball moves across.

They are nearly in as far as the line of the 18 yard box so that 4 flood the centre.

You can draw a triangle over the rcb, rb and cm and another on the other side.

You.csn draw a triangle over the keeper and two cms.

You have another at rw, 10.and cm.

You've width from the rw who the keeper or rcb can hit if people press up. Same on the other side.

It's all about overloads the 10 can move over and they are trying to overload the opponents full back and make a 3 v 2.

If you look at the first half of the first gsme it looks very.much like this.

Second half trent was gone inverted and it all got a bit messy at times but also seville changed their team and were fresher.

The second game the formation was all over the place and Las palmas pressed well.

Bradley was too far up, Phillips couldn't pass it. Jones ran off up the park leaving endo so all the triangles were a bust.

The good thing was vvd and quansah worked well and knew what they were at as did macca and gtavenberch.

If we can keep trent in the slot then salah, diaz and Jota look potent.

Sorry, I didn't make the distinction clear enough. I wasn't saying Nyoni plays on the left, I just added his name in as a player to watch. He's also very bouncy like Mané. I like players with distinctive movements because they are easier to identify when you're watching with the sound off.

Well you can't miss Nyoni - he looks like he was drawn on by L.S. Lowry.

Lfc rarely see a player like Elliott who looked like a midget adult.the day he arrived or quansah who looked like a grown man at 16.

A huge amount of players we see are like bajcetic, or morton, or clark or nyoni. Slight of build.

Doak is actually probably one of the more developed and stronger players

Sometimes it's just a body type, very lean, and while they will get stronger as they grow, they will never fill out. Look at Crouch.
