Fair enough. He seemed pretty sympathetic to me though. You already know how I feel about people giving the top England players too much stick just for the sake of it so I wont start again
My initial reaction was I turned the TV off and came on here but Steven Gerrard didn't seem to have a thought in his head for his cousin at that time, he was celebrating like anybody had just missed, the way Anthony Gerrard reacted I would have gone to him instead of celebrating like that. Guess it's about opinions though and maybe I'm a bit cynical about it.
Steven Gerrard is having a laugh. He ran fifty yards and jumped on top of the ' all pile on' that was happening with the Liverpool players. I even commented on it at the time toy mate. I don't mind Gerrard at all and if the moment got the better of him so be it but FFS he should at least hold his hands up.
No. I'm going on what you posted in that he said he didn't celebrate much at first. Please enlighten me.
hes a professional footballer whod just won a cup, i wouldnt recognise half my cousins if i bumped into them or i couldnt tell you where they lived..and i certainly wouldnt let them stop me celebrating a wembley win...**** em!
He said something along the lines of "I know I'm supposed to be happy for the team - and I am, but I've got mixed emotions because of Anthony missing the penalty." He was meant to be talking about having won the cup, on TV to his adoring fans but instead spared a thought for Anthony. I don't see how he can then be criticised for not showing him enough sympathy. He's one of a few players we have in this country who conduct themselves very well but somehow manage to get criticised for doing the exact opposite.
"He's one of a few players we have in this country who conduct themselves very well" Is it April 1st already?
I was surprised given Anthonys reaction when he missed that he piled in with the others like you say, but I didn't see the interviews after but at the risk of sounding cynical again I suppose he would be expected to say he felt bad, even though first reactions seemed to be that he couldnt care less, its not like a random player who missed the pen.
It's true though. Any decent English player is an instant target for boo boys and the like whenever there is an opportunity. There are plenty of instances with foreign players doing some truly outrageous things which are hardly well known at all and yet the most random stuff is used as ammunition against English players (sex habits, fidelity, etc.) because people just want to hate them. I'm talking about people like Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard, etc. Model pros and great advertes for the game but people want to talk about who they've shagged if it gives them an opportunity to moan.
I just get angry with the players when they don't perform, I will be honest and say in the last World Cup it seemed to me that Gerrard spat his dummy out when he was told to play on the left and god knows what happened to Rooney, I might have a go at Lampard as you know but when it came down to it he nearly got us back in it v Germany, and Terry was wholehearted even though he was completely outclassed v the Germans. Maybe Redknapp can burst a few egos in the Euros.
Are we talking about the same Steven Gerrard here? The role model that beat up a DJ and got a 16 year old pregnant? And who's consistently **** for England (when he can be arsed to play) and plays like he doesn't give a **** about his country? And who dives a lot? Even yesterday he clattered a Cardiff player unnecessarily with his elbow and I said the same thing at the time - if that was my cousin I'd have been straight over to him before celebrating, I watched the interview afterwards but thought it was too little too late. Remember Flintoff and Brett Lee in the ashes? How I'd love to see sportsmanship like that in football...
agreed. What about his bar room brawl and court appearance then ? not good conduct is it ? but SG is not as bad as some would have you beleave. i watched the aftermatch celebrations and SG did nothing wrong imo and showed sympathy when interviewed to AG. what else is SG to do ffs, he has just won a major cup @ wembley.
