Good shout, forgot about the Riddler, top top top top top top top top top player, but also a bit past it when we got him, gave 156% each time though, you can't ask for more than that!
so can i ask if Cult means a player appreciated by only a section of fans or does it mean some crap player that is so crap that it is precisely thier craptiude that makes them heros. For me a player like craig johnston would fit into the former category, he had success but was never valued as a top lfc player IMO. under rated perhaps. Biscan is just a joke IMO. a couple games filling in at CB doesn't make a woeful player anyhting other then woeful but to this day he's got this 606 status...yet djimi traore, who contributed more to lfc and the CL run, has no cult status and was equally woeful. Istvan Kozma night also fit this category. I would not consider a legendary player for this cult status as their legendary status suggested everyone knows how great they were... barnes, rush, dalglish, gerrard and many many others. So my cult team would be those who gave a lot for little status at the time. GK: for me I have to agree on dudek with a shout to mike hooper for the laugh. I cannot ever bring myself to put grobs in as he took bribes so sullied anything he did for us (for me anyway) RB: Steve Finnan; the man rafa tried to replace 4 times. so under rated but consistent. says it all really.the reason why i stuck carra at CB. CB: John scales, controversial and perhaps pushed out of the side but he was way better than fat ruddock or sloppy babb and was a solid defender. CB: Carragher, i would have stuck him RB actually but the guy has been under rated by many over the years so has to be in there. he made a lot more forward runs from RB that anyone gave him credit for IMO. LB: Alan Kennedy surely deserves a mention here as a guy not precisely lauded in his day yet scoring winning goals. obviously before my time by about 5 years but from what i've heard and read he was not that popular, or perhaps regarded as a weak link LW: this is hard as many played but trhee names dominate so how about alan a'court for you lads... hardly sung like heighway or barnes. or how about peter thompson? CM: Basically i agree that gary mcallister has real status i think that is ubiquitous. FOr me I agree that Whean was unsung in his day so has my shout. CM Alonso for me is equally unsung at times. it was all maschernao smashing guys or gerrard and torres but alonso was key... just as his return to real's side recently means the goals against are stemmed while benzema, ronaldo and bale are firing them in. RM Craig Johnston as mentioned above, regarded as a lesser player but played a huge role. CF now this gets really really hard as anyone playing a bit for us in this role are usually lauded to the skys. I will put two down Peter beardsley on the grounds that selling him was souness signing his own p45 before he'd hardly started. NOt underrated but unappreciated by his new manager... also not mentioned much i find.... the final name surely must be david fariclough. there are so many "legends" but none rememebr for one goal like fairclough who was not a bad playe rin his own right. I pick him as he is forgotten but for one thing. Dudek Finnan Carragher Scales Kennedy A'court mcallister alonso johnston beardlesy fairclough. not very popular i expect but all actually meriting a shout for giving something to lfc but not being legends (IMO) no crap in sight (also IMO)
Sammy Lee....Ray Houghton....Steve McMahon....John Wark.....Paul Walsh.....Steve Nicol.....Gary Ablett....Craig Bellamy
Think Beardsley has already had a mention though It's much easier for those of us who remember the '80s, loads of unsung heroes who actually used to win things Aldo needs a mention too.
Think there's a few names that I wouldn't class as 'cult'. Fowler and Alonso I would class as Club legends.
i probably missed understood meaning to the thread and picked my all time team. hard when you think about it players i left out like Brucie,Souness,Keegan,Lawrenson,Hughes,,Smith,Kennedy,Carra,Hyypia,Masch,Hamman,Beardsley,God,Traitor,Chav and count. probably a team there by itself, we had some ****ing wonderful players ffs, what went wrong lol.
In short david moores. Kenny dalglish started well but built or didn't build and then when he bricked it souness was awful... continued crapulance form mmores over time held us back all the time. thats my opinion. that man is responsible far more than anyone else... small timey
David Speedie; 6gls in 12gms during a short spell in 1991. Also, have you seen how many clubs he played for????
can someone explain to the ******s on here ie mainly me, what is meant by cult figure as we are just naming ****e now.
true he did clear off the line in cl final 05 i think (was that the game he kicked the post afterwards like he was chuffed he managed something?), so deserves credit, bit like Dudek, but still everyone will remember him for the ****ing stupid clearance he did against someone in the cup, cant remember team.
