For those of us old enough to remember ray Kennedy, we bought him as a CF and he turned out to be world class at left midfield. Not quick, but big, strong, played with his head up, reads the game, good passer, sweet left foot. Wait and see - HE'S MORE THAN AN OLD EMILE HESKEY, wait and see.

Fair enough, didn't realise that. Thought you'd just lost the plot :bandit:

He, like many other Southampton players this last year and a bit have shown they do have the technical skills to match foreign players. Him and others like Lallana, Rodriguez, Cork have shown they are happy to receive the ball to feet and in tight spaces and keep the ball and find a man. Lambert's link up play is very good and should definitely be able to help keep the ball and feed other dangerous players like Suarez/Sturridge/Sterling in and around the box.

I don't think we'd be able to buy anyone with his goal scoring record of the last 2 years in the Prem and with the commitment he will no doubt show for that amount of money.

I think you'd do pretty well putting him in behind the front 2.

Yeah, indeed. Don't get me wrong, that's what he's been bought for, but I suspect Brendan can see the potential versatility in a player with all the agreed attributes we've mentioned. I truly think he could do a job as similar as Barry if asked.

We moved one attacking midfielder who can't tackle into a defensive midfielder, I hope we don't do the same with a forward! All well and good having these ball playing players playing back there, but if they can't tackle and defensively they are suspect, you're always going to leave with your defence with problems.

We'll see, as long as he works hard and delivers effectively for the team that's what counts... In fairness Moses delivered nothing much at all so if we paid 1mil? Well 4 is ok for 32year old but it is quite enough as well

The majority of us are happy, I think it's a fantastic signing strengthens our attacking options and adds a player to the squad who will give 100% every game.

Well.... Seeing we've Suarez and sturridge being good for about oh 50-70 goals I kind of ain't too bothered if I don't see much of him

  15. So you think Studge will last out for fifty plus games? We also saw how much Suarez tired towards the end of the season so I hope Brod manages him better.

was going to say similar, if we get an injury to one of them at least we have a player who will hopefully add 10-15 goals rather than the **** all we got from Aspas and moses.

think it was a good buy, guess him being a boyhood fan helped us get him as he can easily be first team player at most other clubs.

Perhaps we're giving the wrong impression a bit here. We understand Ricky's qualities, and respected him as one of our own. I think some of us were a bit surprised that he chose to come to us , given that he's likely to get less game time given the attacking options we already have.
However, having seen his interviews, it's clear that he's ecstatic over the move and I'm really looking forward to seeing him play for us.

On a side note, I have to say, as a football fan, I'm sad to see the prospect of Saints getting ripped apart by the big boys, though.
I hope your board shows some character and keeps hold of a decent core.

Ray was a brilliant player for us and it was sad when he was struck down with illness . Definate similarity with lambert.
