Resolute defending, would love to say this game needed Gayle but he's utterly anonymous when he plays at the moment. We need a fast striker to take advantage of some sexual through balls, once again I found myself fairly confident about our defence, its not Elliot's fault he keeps having to deal with wonder goals. A credit to the team that Liverpool needed to resort to that. Never seen a Newcastle team keep sturridge quiet n all! What would we do without Benitez. Hoping to god we get an AM in, its the missing piece from his jigsaw. Perez just hasn't got the minerals
You have to admit when one side are miles better than your own and defensive doggedness and several prayers are necessary. Unfortunately for us, their prayers were answered and Liverpool clung on
So was Shelvey. Merino was fairly poor, but I'd rather he crawled around, wheezing like Darth Vader without a mask, than be subbed for Hayden...
Defensively pretty spot on mind. Hayden was not the defensive alternative, or the attacking, he was just Hayden. A change comparable to Diame
Why not? Both sides came from behind to take creditable points against North West powerhouses: What have they got to be ashamed of?
I can't see what Perez brings to the team at all. How he stayed on pitch for so long is a fcuking mystery to me. Wish we had cashed in when Spurs were sniffing round him. Fcuking Gash!!
Sadly we are stuck playing budget players, because that is all we buy. Some will come good, most will look budget. At least Rafa has them all organised enough to somewhat nullify the individual shortcomings.
Keith Downieā€¸Verified account@SkySports_Keith Watched Lascelles & Clark closely for 5 mins or so - every step they took was mirrored. Newcastle's back two so well drilled by Benitez.
Thought we matched them in first half but as game opened up in 2nd half we were 2nd best. Thought Shelvey was very good today. Defensively astute and some good balls out of defence as well. Merino fairly anonymous and Clark and Lascelles very solid apart from one missed clearance in 2nd half that Sturridge should have taken advantage of. Enjoyed it though, good point - my unbeaten home supporting record goes on.
It bolloxed my 3-1 Toon win pub prediction AND my insurance bets but happy with the point. Good to catch up with the secret dictator drinking club again. All that evil plotting felt damm good. Safe trip back.
Under Benitez it is so much more about the team than the players. Our games have been tight this season (except us hammering West Ham and the Tottenham game once we were down to 10 men) and it bodes well for us continuing to nick points. Unlike under Pardew where we randomly blew hot and cold Benitez has us blowing luke warm on a seemingly permanent basis. I can't ever remember being this excited by a half-decent defence. He's built that, not bought it. Impressive stuff.
