I personally think - --------------Gayle---------------- -----------------Perez-------------- Atsu------Merino--Shelvey------Ritchie Mbemba----Clark-Lascelles---Yedlin -------------------Elliot---------------- We need to be keeping the ball for a fair amount of time, but Liverpool will probably have a greater share of possession. We should expect that. I'd set up on the counter. Shelvey along side Merino for midfield quality. Merino spreading play, Shelvey launching long passes finding the runs of Perez, Gayle and Atsu. Pace and killer passes. I'm all for experimenting with 4-4-2 sometime, but we can't switch the line up too much all the time. I also think we should switch to a standard 4-4-1-1 and allow Perez to play more as a second striker rather than a CAM.
I'd keep Hayden in as a holding CM and allow Shelvey and Merino to get on and support the striker as we will be under pressure. Not sure about Gayle up top on his own in this one, will give us pace on the break but won't hold the ball up as well as Mitro or Joselu. Thought Atsu was poor again at the weekend as well get Murphy or Aarons on the wing.
Your formation doesn't include the numbers 4, 2, 3 and 1, so it's a non-starter. But in all seriousness, for Liverpool, I'd pack the midfield and go with some kind of hybrid 4-5-1/4-3-3 effort. Grinding out a 1-0 defeat is critical to our season. Drop Perez for Shelvey and Joselu for Gayle; it'll be more important to attack with pace a la Leicester Counter Attack, rather than aim for a target man because they're not that bad in the air. Aim for sitting deep and hitting fast with the pace of Atsu, Gayle and Ritchie. Jonjo/Merino to play together so one advances whilst the other sits deeper; Hayden should aim to stay back and be destructive, possibly creating 3 at the back and allowing Mbemba or Yedlin to support further up the field, or contribute to the counter (they're both fast).
4-4-1-1 and 4-2-3-1 are the same formation, basically. I'd have the same line up as Tash but I'd start Mitrovic up front.
Stick eleven players on the field against their eleven and score more goals than them. Its a simple game.
If this is the match thread can I just say its much better than ACS'. Although I thought we weren't allowed to start it until earliest Friday.
I suspect he will start with Hayden rather than Shelvey. He likes to keep it very defensive early on and I would suspect he willbe happy going in at half time 0-0. Liverpool are there though to be hit on the break. They lack shape and a holding midfielder and are vulnerable to this. I hope he starts Shelvey and Merino - Tash's line up is spot on. Its nice that we are not out of games in the first 25mins anymore but we do need more attacking intent.
Is the future of the match day threads? Try and pretend it's not Tash's formation porn? I agree, I find his earliness to be almost a direct intimidation of the legacy of ACS' work
Perez and Gayle seems collectively too prissy for a front line. I'd rather risk Gayle at AM and keep Joselu. For all his ****ness of shooting, he's got into 4 separate clear-cut chances in the last 2 games. ****s gonna score one of these days. I think Perez is guna struggle with the gegenpressing, he needs more time. Punt it to Joselu and hope Gayle might get a flick on, the rest I agree
I’d like to see him start with Shelvey and Merino. Hayden looks very tired. Also I think it’s time Murphy got a run out instead of Atsu.
But he's in my fantasy footy team! Should be a good game plenty of goals. We've got Spartak first so there's no match thread yet but when there is ayou are all welcome.
Comments like this fascinate me. I'm betting you're not "older generation" age. How can Hayden be tired? We've only played 6 games and we've had an International break in the middle of that as well. He's not tired, he's simply not playing well. Not saying he's playing badly as I don't think he is but he does need to impose himself more on the game and on the opposition players. If he's tired then there are serious problems with our fitness training.
I get ya mate, think it's a frame of mind thing thoough. He seems hell bent on alternating between a tidy ball-chasing CM one match and Mo ****ing Diame the next. I'm just worried Shelves doesn't offer enough cover to a defence that will be well under the cosh quite often
The scousers are coming into form so I'm going for a defeat. Either 1-2 or 1-3. Hope Mitro starts too.
--------------Mitro---------------- -----------------Shelvey-------------- Murphy------Merino--Hayden------Ritchie Mbemba----Clark-Lascelles---Yedlin -------------------Elliot----------------
I just don't get how we have amalgamated couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo, and couldn't hit a barn door if you were sitting on the handle. Its just not right is it?
