"If he scores"......... But there lies the problem... There's not enough goals in this team... Our top scorer in the league is Jackson with 4, closely followed by Church with 3, and the rest of them on 2 or less... Cousins, Poyet, Harriott, all have their qualities, but how many goals in them..? We need some goal threat in on loan, if not at least start Reza... He has to be utter ****e if he can't better those abysmal goal stats, and I don't think he's that.
One of the noticeable things about our non performance yesterday was the sheer number of sideways and backwards passes. In the first half even their centre half took the ball and ran unchallenged 50 yards with it. Can you imagine Richard Wood doing that? That is down to tactics and coaching. There is a horrible mindset about Powell's tactics which say that even though we are bottom of the league, a 0-0 is still a good result. It isn't. We need a settled formation and style of play for the remaining games, not constant chopping and changing and square pegs in round holes. Play a diamond in the middle with Astrit and Jackson at the top and base, and Poyet and Cousins in the centre. But KEEP playing them. We have got real, real problems up front still. Lowest scorers in the league for a reason and the sheer folly of selling Yann gets more stark after every game.
Something that struck me odd yesterday (and it relates to CP's playing days). The full backs were doing there job defensively in the sense they were making Sheffield United having to cut back to get the cross in. But what the defenders in the box weren't doing was stepping up (basic defending). As soon as you see the winger having to come back on to the other foot you have a precious 2 seconds chance to all step forward and put the attackers in the offside position. The odd bit was they were following the attackers movement so actually dropping so deep they had then crowded Hamer's 6 yard box. Really, really poor.
I agree that Church aint great but, you could put Luiz Suarez in our starting eleven and he'd struggle to score goals. WE DO NOT CREATE ENOUGH OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STRIKERS... simple. Were in the **** big time. So why not play positive attacking football for the rest of the season. It's not as if doing what we're doing is a resounding success.
We need to play a 3-5-1-1. Hamer in goal. Morrison, Wood and Dervite at CB. Cousins, Poyet and Jackson in the middle. Wiggins and Wilson as wing-backs. Asteroid in the hole. Reza up top. Me as manager.
I'm willing to make that sacrifice, SuperC. The club needs me, the fans need me, the future of the planet is depending on me.
I don't see why you think you should be manager Ponders. Are you Polish? Belgian? A close friend of RD? Thought not! Sit back and watch the match.
But I still get to save the world, right? The thought of being anything other than English makes me feel queasy.
For once I am happy to concur with everything Vol says. except, Jackson does not have the legs to play 90 minutes twice a week. so we have CP's lack of Plan B (some may say no plan A)
Just got back from Cornwall. Having read a 2-word report from FHB jnr. (so poor), I thought I'd better come on 'ere and find out what happened. I think I get the picture!
